I watched this over Christmas. It’s beautiful and the choreography of it all is just so hard to get your head around at times. Particularly in how Byrne goes from singing, guitar and then dancing with only using his music as his que point. Just brilliant and life affirming stuff. So sad I missed that tour !
This bottom one was suddenly sent to me by about two dozen people over the span of twenty minutes one day. I clicked on it and there was my long-missing appearance on Black Entertainment Television’s “Rap City” no doubt fresh off a long night out in the clubs but I still got a shape up in my office right before they rolled tape I was either 19 or 20. It’s been fascinating to have this glimpse of my younger self as I’ve been taking stock and reminiscing (as I’m sure many others have)-
Legendary radio personality Bob Fass revolutionized late-night F.M. radio by serving as a cultural hub for music, politics and audience participation for nearly half a century.
That Mel Cheren documentary was so well done. Incredible stories from a sweet, focused and humble guy. I think from his label I’d take ‘Heart Beat’ out of all the releases on West End but there were a lot of others too !
Heartworn Highways has some incredible songs and performances, powerful stuff. Think it’s finally going to be easily available per link. YouTube used to have interesting docs about Gene Clark from the Byrds and John Fahey respectively but don’t seem to be there anymore. Chet Bakers Let’s Get Lost from 1988 is excellent. As is the Classic Album doc about Steely Dan’s Aja. Saw an interesting doc years ago about Billy Paul, made on the cheap by some Danes I think, chatting to him about how his career tanked when he followed his mega hit Me and Mrs Jones with Am I Black Enough For You. That ATCQ doc is heartbreaking at times - how can Tip and Phife dislike each other?!
Fk playing all the Prelude hits with lots of interesting commentary and stories about how the records were made. Loads of guest appearances from the big names of house and disco.
UK viewers- youll need to change your VPN to be able to watch it
One of my favourites is Last Angel Of History by John Akomfrah which pulls together Kraftwerk, Detroit, P Funk. George Clinton. Lee Scratch, Sun Ra, Goldie, A Guy Called Gerald and beyond.
