Modded or mid-price rotary mixers

So there’s absolutely no signal until you get to 10pm on the dial?

@elzorro no, what he’s saying is that below 10 o’clock the signal wouldn’t be loud enough to hear with another track already playing at full volume.

Got it. Thanks!

You ever read something and realize that you know nothing even though you’ve been DJing for 25 years plus? Going to try to memorize all of this so when I chat to my friends I avoid saying things like, “yeah, it takes a while for the volume to kick in on the knobs but she’s a beauty”.

Don’t suppose anyone is selling a Xone S2 rotary front?

Seems like the right place to ask…

I spent about 6 years looking for one of those before I sold my S2.

Good luck with that!

Yeah I’m pretty resigned to not getting it now haha, know one person who I ask probably once a year if he’s willing to sell !

They pop up on eBay every so often, so assume you have a search in place?

Looks like this fella sold 5 last year

Cheers mate will keep an eye out for that!

To be honest it’d be a bit of a luxury move, it’s too big for home use currently so have got the trm202 on the go right now. Only use the S2 when I’ve got a party on and those are pretty rare at the mo

After I posted I actually remenbered that this must be the same fella who had 10 made and then was selling them on a Facebook page called Rotation which you should probably join if youre in FB.

From memory they all sold but if you search S2 Rotary, you’ll find it, and maybe you can twist his arm.

https://unionaudio.co.uk/ £5.5k!! are they mental?

Ouch!
Good review here:

I didn’t watch the review but 5.5k GBP is insane. Good luck selling that to rich idiots.

Posting a question here as I am a bit frustrated. Let’s see what you think!

I recently got my hands into the new Ecler Warm 2, ordered from Thomman (germany). I was quite excited as it is my first rotary mixer and it’s from Ecler (from Barcelona, where I am from). I was testing it and I was really happy with the sound and overall with all the features of the mixer. However, there I immidately realised that the MIX light indicator always show blinking signal even if there is no signal coming from any player. All the rotary faders are down and I also disconnected all the inputs and it was still doing the thing (video). When connected, there was no noise whatsover though, the sound was great.

I still decided to contact Thomann about the issue and they told me that there is something wrong with it and I should return it for a new one. Now, I just received the replaced one and it is still doing it!! Now the signal seems to be more strong and showing in the other channel (before it was the L meter, now the R one). I am starting to wonder if it’s some interference caused by my electricity installation. I tried all the different plugs at home and did it in all.

Do you have any experience with this? The next thing I will try is to plug it in somewhere not in my place and see if still does it. Again, you can not hear any noise, but I still think that it is not normal behavior. But it is really weird that with two different mixers, I see the same behavior. Thoughts?

Appreciate it!!

you might have a grounding problem - poor AC in your house.

one thing i’d do is connect the main outs to whatever you plan to use (powered monitors, stereo, whatever) and without plugging in any inputs at all, turn the mixer’s line levels and master output up to see if you can hear what kind of signal it thinks it’s passing. might be radio interference, might be a ground hum?

you’re on the right track though - taking it somewhere other than your place to test is a good idea.

I just tried this:

I can only hear a slight hum by cranking all the faders up and the master to the max when in phono switch is activated. With the line switched, I almost do not hear anything.

Isn’t it normal that it hums a bit when it is all cranked?

I have a pair of powered JBL monitors, so there is little interference that can be caused on the other end. With my Xone 22, I do not see any signal in the meters when there are no inputs. Also, the Xone hums way more when cranking the volume.

I will try to bring it to another place and check for the electricity. But I am starting to think that this might not be the problem. What do you think?

Edit: The humming sounds a bit like the sea.
