Mix CDs - what do you still rate?

Cool. Such a great mix. Later they went a bit too commercial imho

I remember 5 cds free with DJ mag I think mid 90s. The Dave Clarke and John Aquavia one’s were brilliant… Anyone remember these? One had a 8 ball logo can’t remember the other 3 djs…

i love a mix cd where it is clear that the producer could never have released the mix commercially.

Second this one! Great set that transcends the electroclash context it was released and marketed in.

Not sure if it counts but the Justin Van Der Volgen cd mix of his edits that came out on Golf Channel in 2009 is the sound of my dream night out. Big love also to the Rub n Tug and Metro Area Fabric mixes, Moodymann DJ Kicks, Weatherall Masterpiece triple CD, Idjut Boys Press Play, and Morgan Geist Unclassics.

Ah, I loved both those mixes. Totally forgotten about that cd

Yes to Justin VdV and Idjuts Press Play. Both great and played to death. I’m sure I heard some ‘famous’ dj got busted playing the Justin set and pretending it was him.

Surely not, haha.

Laurent Garnier “Laboratoire” mix CDs were pretty influential for me and I still pull them out. The great opening of mix 1 with Jungle Wonz moving to Funky People and slowly transitioning into Green Velvet. The ear-melting mix of “Let it Go” into Teste’s “The Wipe” followed by the loony “All the Way In”. Still class.

“Optimo - How To Kill The DJ [Part Two]” was a revelation, both in terms of the tunes and the idea that you could do whatever you wanted to in a mix.

This is good if you can find it. Ripped In Glasgow: Optimo - Hogmanay End of the Decade Poptimo Mix

Harvey opened with the first 3 tracks or something at a Mister Saturday Night party. Justin was there so I don’t think he was trying to pass it off as his own work

This did a lot for me when it came out.

Humble brag. I pulled that one together. I wanted to do all the seminal clubs in the uk. We got as far as wild bunch at the dug out and soul II soul at the afrika centre and then the label went bankrupt :man_shrugging:t3:. Was meant to go through acid house, jazz etc. But we got two good ones out.

In the compilations thread @Joe mentioned some Electric Chair ones which reminded me of this mix cd that’s on regular rotation in our kitchen…
