Memories of the Chill Out Room?

And here’s a flyer for the last proper Chill Out Room that I never did, I say never did as I turned up to play on the night and was told The Chillout room was canceled, I cant remember why it was canceled, either Sound System or Staffing issues I think. It was a huge disappointment though, this was going to be the first big promotion I had played at and was hoping it was a foot on the ladder to bigger things.
I left the House (Rave) scene shortly after this night and never did a Chillout style room again as when I returned to playing Dance Music many years latter the Chillout Rooms had gone and the second/side rooms had just turned into extensions of the main rooms really, just (usually) with more underground sounds.

ESSENCE FLYER

Anyone here know Chip (ITFP)? He was also billed to play The Chillout Room at this event, he was a real nice guy, moved away to Manchester or somewhere I believe. Always wondered if he continued DJing when he moved away.

Yes mate.
First flyer was at Roots which was part of Mr Sweets (now Jesters) in Union Street, the second flyer for the Warehouse directly opposite Mr Sweets.

You must know Richie Rundle?

Yeah, Richie was part of the Exeter scene but has played plenty in Plymouth over the years and when I was in contact with him last a few years ago he was still DJing on the regular (in Birmingham).

He’s a good old mate of mine. We used to do a night together in London 20 years ago. Lovely man with great taste in music.

Reviving this thread after remembering the upstairs room at the “Come Dancing” nights at the place that was next to Clapham Grand, mid to late 90s. Can’t remember who the DJ was but it was a nice Balearic vibe (though he did once play Wonderwall ). Anyone remember?

Cape Town really took on the sound in the late 90’s and there was a club called the Magic Lushroom that was relatively small and was just set up for people to take copious amounts of drugs in and have a natter. DJ was a guy named Tarquin who was this mythical creature who everyone knew somebody who said they knew him but nobody ever spoke to him (mostly because he was behind the decks for long periods of time). It started early at 6pm and was rammed by 630 and by midnight everyone cleared out to the more doof doof sounds down the street. Chill Rooms we’re definitely a thing until suddenly they weren’t. I used to love them.
