Brothers In Arms seemed to be the first CD that many people (friends’ Dads, not us) had. Remember it being played loads when people thought CD players were space age madness and wanted to show off.
I still remember my first boss Don saying at the time if it had Walk On The Wild Side on it as well it would’ve been the perfect album. It puzzled me a bit tbh
Well, I had it on vinyl and CD. I did go though a bit of a DS phase around ages 12-13. #earlydad
Its all coming back to me now - one of my best mate’s dad introduced us to them via Sultans of Swing. The same dad was second in command at Habitat and moved to Amsterdam when we were about 15, which as you can imagine, was all kinds of ace
Sultans of Swing is an absolute banger
That little drum fill particularly.
That’s what makes it!
this is deffo my memory of that album!
something in my eye…
Earliest record I can remember seeing ‘also available on Compact Disc’ on the cover was Julian Cope’s Fried on Mercury in 1984!
the other big album I remember on early CD was Simply Red - Stars
Now then, this lot hailed from Eastbourne. They turned up as guests of honour at our primary school summer fete in 1982.
Incidentally, member John Smithson was also in a band called Betty Swollocks who would play at our local nite spot, Tuxedo Junction, or ‘TJs’.
On drums you’d find Jason Bonham, son of John. He once gave me a pair of sticks after a gig. Sorry, wrong thread.
Tuesdays was 50p night. A pint of grolsch in a handled jar for 50p. You could be in hospital for under a tenner on a rainy Tuesday in Eastbourne. Happy days.
I’ve not heard that for 40 years! Spectacularly bad! Budget Lene Lovich with a dash of Kate Bush
