Marshall Jefferson Appreciation Thread

Great record but Marshall had nothing to do with it.
The LP was a compilation of tracks previously released on Trax Records in the US by Merwyn Sanders and Eric Lewis under the artist names Virgo Four and M.E.
Confusingly when these were released on Radical Records in the UK they used the artist name Virgo which had previously been used by Marshall.

I didn’t realise he was behind some of these, even though I have a lot of them.

Byron Stingily disappeared from music, unless anyone knows different?

He’s a high school principal!

He totally hasn’t he’s just in a world maybe outside of what you see. Check Beatport. He’s pretty busy.

According to his Twitter he still lives in Mcr.

Thought it would have been posted by now, so I guess i’ll do the honours then.

Jeez, those newer Stingily bits are pretty bad, but I totally get it…

Reminds me of a random conversation I had here a few months ago with this guy from LA called Eric who is a singer now based in Europe. Wonderful raconteur, v bitchy, slightly despondent that he never gets to work with cool disco people and always ends up doing the same sessions and getting fleeced by the likes of Toolroom on completely soulless pap. Made me wonder how many people or actual ā€œlegendsā€ add their vocals to any old shit now just to pay the bills?

Did it ever get a physical manifestation?

Would like a copy if there were any left under the bed…

It’s criminal this was never released as a 12".

Maddeningly catchy.

Ten City ā€œcame backā€ in 2020 but no one really heard about it because of something else that happened that year, but IMO this is one of the best dance music tracks that came out in the last decade, easily, and desperately needs to be released on a 12.

When you get the chance, play this in a set and watch everyone go into high gear:

No it was just an idea to do an online magazine and it took me so long I only did one : )

I wonder why some pioneers such as Marshall Jefferson are pretty much relegated to C list nights these days, at least in the UK.

Would be an ideal candidate for a Frankie mix :pensive:

I honestly think that’s perfect as is. Dimitri did his thing on it and made it worse, which isn’t usually the case, but that mix was fire from the get go. I think it would’ve been the song of the summer in 2020 if not for covid. I’d heard Glenn Underground play it before, he had early dibs, and it brought the house down at a rooftop party here in SĆ£o Paulo in December 2019. There’s also a Boiler Room video of him playing it much before release and from the number of Track ID comments on that track you know people wanted that as soon as possible. I might like it a bit too much but in the least it shows you how Marshall Jefferson and Byron still have ā€œitā€.

It’s just such a lovely song isn’t it, never mind even the dance part of it. Really takes me back to being a lovesick teenager too (which I was when it came out :face_with_peeking_eye:).

I agree, to me it’s a perfect song. One of the few.
