And a lot these young Tories are in the, read some Milton Friedman, Thatcher just wasn’t committed enough, and want to bring back a Liz Truss style project - the same economics and politics that has played a huge part in why this country is in this current place.
And where are large parts of the Left? Care more about having to queue longer at passport control in Europe, totally unaware why the right is getting traction, because at least they’ve understood that many people (traditional Labour voters) have seen there lives get worse, despite being told the opposite basically defending the status quo, that is long gone, and was never worth defending). The Left in Britain has always been fairly conservative in certain areas of life. Now we have these people being called racists for voting for Brexit as an example. I only voted remain on a decision a few days before the vote, and that was purely down to the rhetoric of Farage and the likes - and the genuine racist pricks that gathered around him like moths. As in the US, they have been left with the only people offering change (despite little positive difference on the ground). Trump, or God help us, Farage getting into number 10, will be almost wholly down the Centre Left (and Right). A Trump or a Farage doesn’t get in power without people beyond their support base turning out for them on voting day. There’s a big reason that many young people are now turning to the Right, and often the Far Right. Many on the Centre Left certainly are Neoclassicals, beyond even the likes of Thatcher - the Government is no different that a household and should act accordingly.
I read a lot of economics, being a nerd in this are, and all this shit has been debunkt outright, falsified by History (many times) and one of the foundations of the whole project has been disproven mathematically to be impossible - yet it is still the orthodox position of both parties.
If you’re a young person, maybe having to work several jobs to make ends meet, your chances of actually buying a house are more of a dream than any reality, then you’re probably not going to vote for the ones offering the same old turd. They don’t even sprinkle it with glitter anymore.
I genuinely believe Democracy is under its biggest threat since the interwar years. I am an ardent leftists utterly frustrated by a lot of what the current left is for and about. Calling anyone a racist for voting for Brexit is an easy way to make that person feel better about themselves in a situation they do not understand.
