2.5 hours of live recording in the Berlin Sameheads. That basement is one of the best things Berlin has and very lucky I could finally play all the wonky, slow but dancey records we own. Including that basement monster track by @Apiento The Orange Place, that was quite a moment haha

Melv was my record shopping buddy, starting when I bumped into him one day on the corner of the Kingsway and realized he now worked 100 meters away just round the corner.
We could make it over to Soho and back in a lunchtime and that became a regular thing. Soul Jazz in Ingestre Place, Sister Ray and Reckless in Berwick street, Cheapo Cheapo records in Rupert Street and Rough Trade in Covent Garden all became regular haunts, along with the odd trip to record and tape exchange in Notting Hill on a Saturday.
In putting together this mix, I realized that Adrian changed what I listened to more than anyone I know. There isnât a track here that he didnât lead me to. An introduction to MoWax led to DJ shadow and Japanese hip hop (I still think Krush has the most low slung beats around), he recommended Kruder and Dorfmeisterâs DJ Kicks and expressed a love of Love T.K.O⌠I can vividly picture standing at the bottom of the spiral staircase in Rough Trade whilst Lazarus Man by Terry Callier was playing, with both of us unable to leave until it finished.
The final song on this mix was a special one, he always said that if I was ever to see a copy of the John and Beverley Martyn album that contained Auntie Aviator I was to grab it for him. I donât know if he ever managed to get his hands on a copy. The vinyl re-releases came after he had left us and now I cannot listen to it without thinking of Adrian, I hope somewhere he is still listening.
