I’d say so

After my Marshall Hain offering got rejected by the court of balearic authenticity, I’m back for another go.
Always had a soft spot for this…Gibb brothers composition with Frankie valli vox, what’s not to love…
There’s a dimitri from paris edit which seems to bring out a bit of extra funk in the groove. I like it.
Herb and Janet
I was on your side for Marshall Hain
Maybe not a balaeric version but very good
Marshall Hain fans might want to check out the first Eye To Eye album from 1982 that Julian Marshall made with a different vocalist (Deborah Berg). Not an expensive one at all but took ages to run into a copy in the wild. Not especially balearic but there are some really good songs on it, it’s kind of arty adult pop, really reminds me of some of the Laura Groves / Bullion stuff. They did have other records too but i haven’t got round to hearing those yet. Anyway this one’s a good 'un…
Eye To Eye - Progress Ahead
Inspired by the B-sides thread (but I didn’t post it there because c’mon there’s no way on earth this beats the A-side), i was amazed when i finally turned Smalltown Boy over and heard this one. The first half of it is just plain wiiiiild, pure transcendent, ecstatic madness, kind of a north african-ish bongo jam with Jimmy’s voice just spiralling up into the blue. Would love to hear someone really stretch this one out - has anyone done it yet?
Bronski Beat - Infatuation / Memories
Kenneth Bager’s released a new rework of Queen’s ‘You Don’t Fool Me’ which sounds v similar to Pete Blaker’s. Not a bad job but amazed this got past the notoriously controlling Roger Taylor! Or have our Danish friends been cheeky…?
*Still my fave Pikes ‘moment’ ever, hence the interest
tough one. The vocal is quite off imho. Definitely prefer Blaker’s one (even if it’s only in memory haha)
Just realised my previous reply to your Marshall Hain post sounds like I was saying it wasn’t Balearic, but I wasn’t! That wouldn’t be very Balearic of me.
I was talking about the Marshall Hain track I linked in my response which is more AOR-y ![]()
Talking of soft spots for The Bee Gees, this is mine ![]()
This is mine:
is it? in any case, it’s a ripper
There’s a Steely Dan connection too. The album was produced by Gary Katz, and Donald Fagen played keyboards on one or two tracks.
It’s a cover version with no samples from the original recording, but I think it depends on what the publishing rights are
It is (ripper!)
I also like a couple of tracks on 3rd Melody. Cascades if fab, the sole discogs comment calls it “a slow and floating cosmic chugger”. But this slightly cheesy, feelgood number is my fave:
