Huge fan of Depth Charge, I remember dragging my friends half way across Glastonbury to hear him DJ in the dance tent in 1995.
Shaolin Buddha Finger will always be my favourite of his but some of his remixes are great too.

Mark Moore left a beautiful post on his Instagram… very sad
That’s the one I was thinking about… Great remix
What sad news about J Saul Kane. I knew him from back in the 80’s when he was with London giants LTB(Live To Break). This is the only shot I have of him from back then, and unfortunately his face is partly obscured. RIP to a very talented guy.
Didn’t that version get recalled ?
Amazing. I bet you have some great stories… That’s v early doors.
Don’t know about that. It was limited anyway. Got rid of mine a while ago and had replaced the inners. Some things are just unnecessary
Just seen Piers’s post on TP News. There’s one from Wrongtom here too:
Yeah, that shot is at Fresh '86 which was at Wembley Stadium and was a great day. It was around the time that Live to Break and Second To None(my crew) were starting to wrangle for position and we had a few battles over time. I must say though that Live To Break always were a bit in front as far as swagger goes. And if my memory serves me correctly, LTB went on to be managed by Paul Okenfold of all people.
The early hip hop scene was my first musical love and I was pretty active in Graff too back then, but a year or so after this I was lured away by the warehouse party scene and the rest is history.
I mean it seems like a golden time… We were a little too young though we were buying the Electro (Electro Crucial 2 was my first) albums and stuff when we were 11 or so and trying to breakdance (badly) carrying round lino and cardboard. Seems funny that we used to go down Bromley high st and start dancing heh.
Growing up in Bournemouth we were into all this at that time and I had a mate who went with his crew to Wembley around ‘86. It must have been to the same event. He went up again in ‘87 to see Public Enemy, but there was lots of trouble. Good show though apparently.
Second To None were a Bournemouth crew. I moved from Westbourne Park Down to Bournemouth and we’d go up to London for Spats on Oxford Street Saturday afternoons, before the Madisons sessions were secured…
Just been enjoying this post.
RIP been enjoying his output for years - I wasn’t familiar with the TET-Disco Drunkard track… I wonder whether Armand V H ever heard it … reminds me of the Spin Spin Sugar loop
Crucial Electro 2 was a big fave for me as a 9/10 year old. Busting out the lino at the after school club. Coincidentally, my mum handed me some old tapes just last week, including my original Electro 5 with silver + gold permanent pen all over it.
Sadly, it seemed to be a bit of a fad at the time. I can remember going back to school after summer hols and everyone was like ‘nah thats out’. Gutted.
I was’nt independant enough to pursue it at the time. Certainly the first music movement i was into.
It’s the bassline from Lenny Williams ‘Running’

I remember laughing when big beat happened as it it dawned on me how obvious this was going to be - our age group had been into hip hop in the mid 80s then rave at the turn of the decade - it was just the result of the 2 combined.
I used to go to the Madisons Saturday afternoon dos 85-86. That’s where I had my first dance floor moment - pure electricity with the electro tunes. I forget his name, but there was a tall guy with blonde hair that was part of the crew you’re talking about - his tag was a crown and he literally covered b’mth in it. There were also some londoners who would come down to Madison’s - friends of a guy called Harry who we knew.
It’s just funny how, with time, all of these dots start connecting together. Like your photo of JSK, who’s tunes I’d start buying later. And when I think of that wembley photo I wonder about people like Richard Sen, who I bet would have been there too, being from that part of the world. Time is bonkers!
Thinking about it - it may have been 84-85, as it was just after Beat Street and Breakdance came out. Anyway - a long time ago!
