In Memoriam…

Saw a picture of a young Alistair Darling earlier and I’m convinced it’s the most Balearic I’ve ever seen anyone look.

I named my bulldog Shane in the early 90’s.

On account on him having no teeth. And being an absolute loon.

I met Shane a couple of times and both times he was just a lovely guy. He was shitfaced both times but the amount of effort that the put into being his best self both times was quite striking. He felt like a kindred spirit that had taken a very non lazy path in life, and I was forever impressed and saddened.

More PDA drama for a Friday?!

Ha! Yeah. I felt like it was inappropriate despite what I think, and better to bring positive vibes

Petition for an Orange Pencil thread
I usually orange pencil myself for being too boring rather than too controversial

My orange pencil opinion is that drunks are boring.

Denny Laine passed today. When I was about 11/12 I remember finding the ‘Wings Over America’ triple LP in my mum’s records and playing ‘Bluebird’ and ‘Go Now’ over and over.

That’s sad, he was pretty good. Weirdly, though, as a huuuuge Ginger Baker fan when I was a teenager (less huge now but still a fan) when people say Denny Laine this is what comes to mind, for me:

That’s where I noticed him first, Wings came later.

A supremely talented musician who should’ve achieved more. I read that he mismanaged his finances, drank too much and sold a few macca stories to the press when he was skint, obv souring things (already bad post-Tokyo bust). Which might explain why he was airbrushed out of ‘Wingspan’

Benjamin Zephaniah.

The son of Caribbean immigrants who became a genuine national treasure. Someone who would have been more important than ever in the culture wars and campaigns of division that our government and right wing media are seemingly dragging us towards.
This one has knocked me back a bit.

Just heard, absolutely tragic loss. Grew up with his work, changed me and the Country, as you say national treasure.

Having just listened to Rishi’s bs on ‘Stop the Boats’ you wonder if we’re going backwards… sad times indeed.
