The Road made me an emotional wreck as I had 2 young boys. The film too. I’m still waiting and hoping for Blood Meridian to be made for the big screen.
Don’t know if many here will be familiar with the work of Rick Froberg who passed away over the weekend, but for me he was a pure electric force and singer/guitarist with the best live band I’ve ever seen in my 51 years on earth, Hot Snakes.
Oh shit, that’s a shock.
MF DOOM died in hospital in Leeds, didnt see the conspiracists bring that up.
What a mess.
Very sad news of Simon DK passing today. Like all the DiY crew a really lovely person and such a great talent.
An absolute superstar and a really lovely man. Such sad news.
Sounds like he was hanging out in Leeds -anyone know why Leeds?? - for a while and going to gigs and bars for ages without anyone ever having any idea who he was…
Don’t think it matters.
Monte Cazazza RIP
Doom was originally from the UK (born in Hounslow) - probably has family there.
EDIT: link was exceptionally spammy for me, hence posted to save others the pain!
Simon Smith Obituary, Death – I honestly don’t know how to say this because I am so stunned and heartbroken, but I feel as though we should make the statement that the legend that was Simon DK went away today as a result of a terrible accident. I am so shocked and heartbroken that I cannot even fathom how to say it.
Yesterday evening, he was brought to the hospital in Glan Clwyd, which is located in North Wales. Once there, he was put on life support at the facility. However, due to a change in the patient’s medical condition, this aid was terminated at 5:15 p.m. today. My sadness, as well as all of our collective sadness at his loss, is indescribable and cannot be fully expressed through words. Personally, I have known him for over 35 years, and other members of the DiY family have known him for an even longer period of time than that. We have been through a lot together over the course of the last couple decades, and it has been an absolutely horrible experience.
In the heady days of the late 1980s, he was the first DJ that DiY ever had, and he went on to become possibly the most well-known free party DJ in the country. He was a one-of-a-kind individual who was a pioneer in the field. As a consequence of this, he was responsible for inspiring an entirely new generation of individuals to begin playing records using turntables. Despite the fact that it is perpetually unorganized and perpetually running behind schedule, there is wonderful music and sufficient space for everyone. In all my years, I have never met somebody who was so universally admired.
Ever. There is a chance that he has finally made his peace with who he is. In this terrible time, I honestly don’t know what else to say other than that our thoughts and love go out to his family, to Nikki, and to the entire extended DiY family located all over the world. I’m sorry for your loss. Dark Knight, I pray that you have a restful night; you will be remembered and loved for all of eternity, and you will never be forgotten.
Sorry, got topics confused there dude.
Jane Birkin - Britain’s greatest export to France
Saw her live about 10 years ago at the Barbican - absolutely magical night. A beautiful eccentric.
RIP João Donato. So many Brazilian legends leaving us recently.
Have long thought that his Quem É Quem LP is simply the coolest album of all time, from that cover art to the music contained within it, it’s a true masterpiece.
Came to post the same, and the same track too. Incredible album. RIP Joao.
Will go with this instead…
