So sad. I’m absolutely gutted.
Oh fuck no
One of the finest Uk voices. Me and my mate were chatting about proper singers on the weekend and Terry Hall was up there at the top of the list. A unique voice. I loved this one as a kid.
wondered why i was hearing “ghost town” on the local radio.
sad shit. he seemed like a good one, hard-scrabble but gentle and thoughtful as well.
EDIT - my 8yo just came downstairs to tell me that jane wiedlen died (she didn’t). she heard the radio playing “our lips are sealed” and she can still remember the song and video from she was a real little one. i explained who terry was and she understands now. what an amazing song, what a great career.
Really sad news, a very important figure in British music.
What The Specials did for anti-racism in this country can’t be over stated. When I was young they were a glimpse of how the future could be
Unbelievable. I’m Coventry born and bred and the city has been the butt of many snide comments over the years without the ‘cultural cool’ often associated with many Northern towns and cities. If I could choose just one band though to come from there it’d be The Specials. May he Rest in Peace.
I’ll always have a soft spot for Cov purely because of The Specials and 2 Tone
Gutted
My father-in-law (if I were actually married after all these years) worked for Chrysalis among other labels - this is from his collection with a message to my missus. It takes pride of place on the wall.
Just 55
Fucking hell. Two years older than me

Love that!
Wow. Duffy. Not a great week on the In Memoriam front.
Iain Templeton also passed away yesterday, was in Shack, The La’s and Michael Head & The Strands. A great drummer.
Such a sad loss. An amazing songwriter and singer and a passionate, committed artist. His ability to convey complex emotional situations with a breathtaking and relatable clarity was near peerless in the world of pop music. This song meant a lot to me when in my youth for reasons I can’t quite explain and that’s part of the complex beauty of great art isn’t it?
I’ve seen this come up a few times. So good.
