Alan White, drummer in Yes, also played with John Lennon & George Harrison.
Don’t know about the rest of the male members of this forum, but all these guys popping off at a young age makes me think I’d better make sure I have lots of fun in my remaining 10 - 20 years! Gulp
60 is the new 80 a friend says
Bugger I’ve got 6 months…
Yep, the trick is to not forget to.
Dave Smith died. This guy was huge. Not only did he design some of the greatest sounding and most important synths ever, he’s one of the fathers of MIDI, which is basically what makes it possible for idiots like me to make decent sounding music. Very sad.
really can’t underestimate this guy’s influence.
i’m no synth guy, but the first analog synth i messed around with was a sequential circuits pro-one. it was cool, lightweight and you could makes sounds that cut through anything. i remember hearing a rumor that yazoo’s “don’t go” was made with nothing BUT pro-one’s. it was fun.
then a couple of friends of mine fell into some money and decided to build small home studios (right around 1990) and they BOTH bought sequential circuits prophet T8s. those were the absolute rolls royce’s of synthesizers. i loved the sound, i loved the feel, i loved the design. i STILL want one, even though i can barely cram out a chord.
sequential has long been innovative and superlative. i love japanese electronics (as we all do) but i always wanted to build an arsenal of california synths and samplers (sequential, oberheim, e-mu) just for the fun and challenge.
i have a friend who’s a pretty good engineer and he shockingly turned down a job at sequential about 10 years back, and i’m still amazed he’d pass on an opportunity like that. everything i heard about dave smith made me believe that he’d be one of the ultimo people to work with and learn from.
Dang, RIP.

Julee Cruise. A lovely voice…
Beautiful post
Oh no! What happened? Those early GAMM tunes were amazing.
Just reading that, very sad
Really sad news. Can’t have been that old. First time I ever heard of Sia was via his remix.
oh man, that’s terrible. don’t know anything about him as a person but his name of a record was certainly a mark of quality.
