I Was There (aka Tales of Legendary Events )

I still have the flyer! Here you go 1st September

Just remembered I was at The Stone Roses gig at Heaton Park in 2012. Wasnt quite old enough for the Spike Island or Blackpool gigs and for two decades I was convinced they were finished and would never see them live. It was monumental, there were grown men in tears. Myself included. Ian’s voice was on point for once. They closed out with a 15 minute epic freak out of Fools Gold. The Shane Meadows doc that covers the build up and the gig is a great watch if youve not seen it

I was at the Escape Club gig. Was incredible.

It was the first night of the Oval Space (I think) and an acoustic challenge, to say the least. Apparently the rig was some massive reggae one that wasn’t well suited to said acoustic challenge.

A few events that i had the pleasure of attending, certainly legendary to me.

Happy Mondays at the GMEX 1990. Chaotic but a superb night for a still wet behind the ears 15 year old me.

Several of the Revenge parties held in Wigan in 1990 - 91. Defo legendary events round our way and still talked about to this day. Fortunate i lived and still live 5 mins away from the site they were held on so could walk home as well.

Hacienda 10th birthday. The one thing that stands out about that night was the fireworks going off on Whitworth street outside the Hac and my mate throwing himself to the ground thinking they were gun shots.

The infamous night at Most Excellent at the Millionaire (or Wiggly Worm as i think it had just been renamed to) when the door got rushed by the Salford lot. Very scary night, seeing a car smash through the entrance and into the club.

Second ever Back to Basics at the Chocolate Factory which later became the Music Factory. Mad seeing how that club grew from those first few weeks into what it became.

Although not club related - as @Joe mentioned, The Verve homecoming gig at Haigh Hall, Wigan. Brilliant gig and a bit like a school reunion for me as bumped into so many old school mates. Also, just like the Revenge parties, this gig was in the field / driving range behind my house, remember being sat in the garden the day before listening to the sound check. It’s not everyday you get Richard Ashcroft singing in yer back field!

Damn that looks like a top class night. Don Williams is one of my favorite DJ’s. House, techno, dub techno, doesn’t matter, that guy has great taste, and Mojuba is a buy on sight label for me.
