I was just watching a few videos of DJs I respect and it seems like house music of the vocal/soulful persuasion is back.
Records like these:
This sort of thing. Anyone got any recs?

I’m
going through stuff for NYE and pulled this out this afternoon
Thanks for the reminder about Peggi blu. I’ll did that out too.
Such a big record! Can I come?
The party I went to Friday night was very much in this vein, two DJs from the BBE crew (Jeff Higgins & Johnny Reckless)
Not strictly house but this was a highlight
That’d be really lovely. It’s NYE at Beak Brewery taproom, 8 til 1:30 I think.
I don’t know about ‘back’ but I get the feeling that there has finally been a shift away from repetitive afro based vocals & grooves to a more trad US house style.
Here are a few of my faves from this year.
I really like this queer-forward banger from Gideon:
I’d include that Space Ghost Majestic Fantasies if you hadn’t posted it, here’s 3 more
Most of the house stuff I’m sent gets played for about 5 seconds then deleted as its all so formulaic, predictable and dull.
This caught my ear though.
Would prefer a more dubby version mind ![]()
There’s a million shades of house, some of which age better than others. It was my world for many years but then I dunno if people got lazy or formulaic, as Howler said, but I just got really bored with vocal house in particular or people who didn’t shift tempo.
I’m sure that if I was out and high and somebody dropped a load of Ibadan classics I would still feel it, but how often is that likely to happen now? There was certainly a real excitement around those bangers that is sometimes missing from the chuggers I moved on to but maybe I just changed or got old or hear everything differently now.
I think another thing that lost me was the gatekeeping elitism of some of the pure house warriors. I totally got where they were coming from (people like Pipecock, Jay Simon…) in trying to preserve the roots but it also meant a degree of stagnation imo. I’ll listen to people’s picks on here, maybe it will rekindle my interest, but I dunno if there’s any real way back for me as a scene that I used to follow so passionately.
