There is a record fair on Saturday I’m going to, so I’ll ask the question then.
I’ve only got three that are so warped to be unplayable, so a $1000 plus machine is out of the question. I might try heavy books and time to start with.
Love the one of Bobby Hackett halfway through a cigarette while still on the tarmac. Those were the days/they don’t make ‘em like they used to/world’s gone soft/kids today don’t know they’re born etc etc etc
But nicest find was Harry Styles, sealed, Watermelon Sugar in London today.
£4.
I have a fondness for the track, but also, figured major label 7”s are fairly rare these days.
Didn’t check on Discogs until I got home. Seems I was right!
Will keep it though.
A good weekend with some interesting stuff around. Nothing more than a fiver (Blue Nile - Hats), the rest one or two quid. Restored my faith a bit after a few dry-ish weeks.
My best ever charity shop haul I think? All a 5er each, practically mint and some were in shrink. The bloke on the till who also happened to be the “music guy” in the shop said they were part of a huge collection of soul/disco/funk/RnB that had come in last week, most of which had gone by the time I got there this morning. He decided to put a blanket 5er on all of them as there were too many to price up, apparently.
If these were the bits that were left, I’m incredibly intrigued by what else was in the collection…
Goldmine Records on St. George’s Road in Fitzroy North offer de-warping services. I’ve never done it, but Ben the owner is good guy and he’ll be a fair judge of whether the record is worth trying to de-warp.
Bit shocked this week to get a email and in face confirmation with the chance to play my small audiophile system in a brewery bar. They seem a bit ‘morris dancing’ so this could go either way.
This Touch record is a beast and it’s the second one I’ve found for pound. The other two on Elite were a not cheap ten and the rest a quid or two approx. A lot of traveling and time, not so productive for super hot 12’s at the moment. The below are great classics though,
Sade stands up still, it mixes into the next track and builds even more, sounds so good I took it off my Discogs sales for the sake of a potential tenner less tax.
Oh, it’s always this Kasso with the Bannana sleeve, never Kasso ‘Kasso’
I did study the picture you posted and was going to ask which Elite 12 that was, couldn’t quite make it out.
Did think I was banned from this particular shop as he told me to f off and don’t come back as I spilled some sevens on the floor when a box split a couple of weeks ago. He does turn nasty easily and I’ve been told he has had people by the throat before. Had to return last week with a friend as frankly this shit wears me down, he told that yes he did tell me to f off but the ban was lifted. Back to the pound a go on twelves then!
I wonder who will be the next to deal with Chris Energy in person? That thread was perhaps a cathartic confession from many on here. When does libel kick in?
Car boot bits - all a quid apart from the Vice soundtrack, which was a reasonable fiver. The MMT 7” is a first press in pretty top condition too. I don’t do 7”s really and there was a fair bit of 60s stuff in the same box but I left it for the next person to probably clear out. Aretha also a first US pressing, which I literally scrubbed with washing up liquid to wipe off years of dust and grime - underneath a really nice sounding copy.
Todays finds, up to Porque Te Vas on picture which I bought on discogs for not much. Many obvious Balearic at £2 a go at the bootsale and a few duds.
There is a promo of American Pie that was seen on US ebay at least 15 years ago. It came with a printed promo sheet that was along the lines of it’s great let’s press it up on a 12. Those promo guys used to rule things by the sound of it.
