Hauls Found Today

Record store near me does an annual January sale where everything is half price, so I paid them a visit this morning.

They don’t have the best selection in the world and the condition is always a bit iffy, so I’m not too bothered about getting there at the start of the month, however they price their stock well anyway so at half price it’s well worth a look. Found the following for a total of £31.50…

Quick stop in Bergamo on the way back from the alps. Had time to pop into a local thrift store with 30-40e albums out front but thankfully loads of dusty crates out back. Mainly full of awful 90’s Euro stuff. Recommended if “power” and “hard” mixes float your boat.

Managed to grab these though. Decent haul after a 2h dig. That Motown record sounds alright at 45 rpm too, it’s maybe the pick the bunch. Bedroom material.

Francois K on remix duties (maybe even behind the dub version?) of the Jody Watley tune.

North and South this weekend. Brylcream Teds selling bootsale quality records at mega money at a record fair also…Reggae/House/Disco/Techno in all the same boxes on the floor cause it’s all the same ain’t it?

One or two pounds. I’ve found another OG Edwards, Billy Ocean Spend The Night and some other repeat offenders that I may sell on and give our leaders some more money. Two copies of Mindless Boogie as I’m not going to pay proper money for anything like this. Imagine owning multiple record shop outlets and being completely unaware of 30 year pop dance records and the fact that somebody might want to buy them instead of your Elvis albums. Mr Vain still as dreadful this time round but had no idea Der Erdbeermund was on the B.

Keep digging in 2024. Year of the Dragon

Lunch break charity shop finds, totalling £4.50.

L.O.V.E Got a Hold of Me…

https://www.discogs.com/release/1286551-Demis-Roussos-Demis-Roussos

A new one to me but much better than its Discogs median price suggests… A side is a nice perky disco number, B side is a breezy jazz funk thing.

Big tune

Bargain bin soul, both sides are great and can be found in every charity shop or car boot sale across the country.

Nice enough boogie, not sure I’ll play this but won’t pass it by for 99p.

Thought you had hooked up with a 12 of Demis-Roussos for a second, that would have been a cracker. Is the album cut good sounding ?

Found a copy of this for a quid today in my local charity shop, in amongst about 50 Frank Sinatra records. So weird how these quite obscure records appear on their own in the middle of a load of chud.

If only! It’s not the worst sounding, a little bit flat as you’d expect considering it’s on a 5 track side, but worth picking up for a quid or two. Mind you the 12” appears to be going a little cheaper than I remember it.

I’ve been picking through the dregs looking for this particular album. Not found one yet and it has to be in the £1 bin

I’ve got it but keeping my eye out for the one with I Dig You on it

This one?

It’s also the only way to get his cover of Let It Happen which is a gem, didn’t know anything about that track until I picked the LP up purely for I Dig You, lovely surprise.

Also for what it’s worth, the 7” with I Dig You as the flip side sounds great and can be picked up relatively cheap on Discogs, although it wasn’t released in the UK so you’d likely have to pay for shipping from abroad. Some European sellers still have fairly decent shipping rates so worth taking a look. Think I got mine for about 7 quid all in from a French seller.

I like this Todd Terje edit of ‘I dig you’. Did he just retire from production or what?

I think he made a pretty decent chunk of dosh so maybe he’s just enjoying that. Doesn’t seem to be any sign of any new music from his socials.

He did a super-limited John Coltrane cover last year, but possibly just a one off?:

Chopped in a couple expensive albums and a few 12’s whilst locked in at VU* in Northampton, got three hot 12 inch disco in there. A few battered and mouldy from a antique shop are listed but at these prices I’ll take it, two pounds a go.
Universal Energy ‘Disco Energy’ please on the B. The only James Last albums to have but is it Balearic?

Nice haul, that Goldie Alexander is a fav of mine, and those two James Last LPs are great - still yet to come across them in the wild though!

The James Last was part of collection of all of his albums, this shop takes everything, marching bands, VHS, CD’s, DVD. Goldie Alexander did work for me on the dancefloor with a borrowed copy (because I didn’t have enough records at the time…yeah right). It’s the hardest hitting Boogie Banger known on that US pressing.

Goldie, Universal Energy and Carol Williams were ‘cheating’ buys from VU, the rest found on the cheap.

I’ve always loved that Cats N Jammers 12”, don’t see it about that often either.

There is another Kallax to the right. You would be as happy as a pig in muck here…still left behind some classics which aren’t worth much.

The Cat’s and Jammers may have been through my hands before, before the internet was such a strong force in boosting quirky disco records.
