I’ve always loved the elegant economy of Johnny Marr’s solo in this classic:

First heard Watermelon in Easter Hay during the titles at the end of Alfonso Cuarón’s coming-of-age film Y Tu Mamá También. An inspired choice.
I used to play this classic out all the time, the guitar solo that comes in at around the 4 min marks sounds epic played loud on a decent system:
Love that film
I know it’s prog, but Gary Green was underrated and this track kicks ass
Another Zappa shout:

RIP Mike Mitchell of The Kingsmen. A very important solo
I was just seeing if someone had posted this. I watched it so many times on the weekend. Different grade.
Remembered this the other day, brilliant atonal solo!

The solo by Nels Cline on this specific version of Ashes of American Flags blows my mind every time.

Stevie Ray Vaughn’s solo for Bowie’s Let’s Dance comes in at 3.28 - short but sweet!

Of course there’s the non stop guitar mastery of “Marquee Moon”, but this Richard Lloyd solo at 1.48 on “See No Evil” seriously rips.
Where to start with this topic.
Unhalfbricking by Fairport Convention is one of those go to albums that I reach for, and always listen right through.
This track (and guitar solo) gets me every time, the interplay between Dave Swarbick on violin and Richard Thompson on lead guitar is phenomenal. It was done and recorded in one take as well.
Would think that Tom Verlaine took inspiration from this for Television’s Marquee Moon.
