Lies, myths, debunked half truths, urban legends, bullshit claims - post it here!
I love a good hoax and the history of music is littered with well-publicised hoaxes (or not…) from Macca’s death and Charanjit Singh’s role in acid house through to Kosmicher Laufer’s true identity and whether William Onyeabor ever existed at all. At least one well-respected person I know used to invent the names of artists and tunes in his end of year charts just to see if anyone else voted for them too
a couple of well worn music ones are Stock Aitken Waterman issuing ‘Roadblock’ as a white label through Import shops in order to give it credibility as an underground US Track. And this track which was put about as some sort of Italian import but hey, it wasnt!
Neither of them that hilarious in retrospect, but hey.
When Steve Silk Hurley got to no1 with Jack Your Body, London Records put it about that nobody knew who he was and that he was totally unaware of his success in the UK.
