On the subject of lovely premiership managers ( which would be short thread)
My nephews are massive Wolves fans & live near training ground & walk dogs past it so got to know Nuno ( when there ) & all players
After his mum mentioned it Nuno turned up at his 17th birthday party
Fast fwd to Nuno at Forest & as we live near training ground they waited outside for bus to arrive after an away game, had a chat & he gave them his number
They’ve been over a few times ( my wife & her sistyer, their mum & them went out in town for wine) & last week he took them round the training ground & showed them everything ( tactics board / his Manager of Month statues / red pool table)
Lovely man & a legend in Nottingham
Heartwarming stuff! He’s done a brilliant job there. Shame they just lost momentum at the end. Would have been lovely for them to pip Chelsea to champions league
Just watching the Nation League’s final and trying to imagine England beating either of these sides, or in fact any of the top Nations in the World Cup next summer after last nights performance. We are miles away
I’m not a Spurs fan but I think him leaving now is the absolute best result for him. He leaves with a major European trophy, the “I always win something in my second season” reputation solidified, and he won’t potentially tarnish it further with a third season that could be closer to the second but, potentially, without a trophy. And I think for Spurs you could get someone with a bit more tactical nouse to build on the Europa win and propel you forward. If the rumors about Thomas Franck are true then this is a result all round.
Tuchel making Southgate look like an elite manager
Dont know about the players but even I’m feeling football fatigue. Its never ending. And now we’ve got this new Club World Cup starting this weekend. Crazy
Absolutely, I’ve no interest at all in these qualifying and friendly matches. I enjoy the tournaments but more because of the occasion and the range of teams than watching England
Ditto, though I also gave up on the EPL about 20 years ago. I was football obsessed up until my mid 20s but couldn’t really give a shit about it any more.
Not sure about all of the England complaints. The season’s over, ridiculous time to play friendly matches as in their heads the players will be on the beach.
Football fatigue is very real. I think it was all the games during Covid and then the rampant over analysis of it in friends groups who were looking to fill the void. Then no summers off from tournaments and the slide to joyless men basing their whole personality on people who could be their kids kicking a ball. I left a group chat I’ve been in since because someone asked me if I really supported my team because I dared to say the other team played well. I still watch it but I’m more particular in the games I watch.
The Club World Cup is such a nonsense. Pure Infantino egotism. Delighted to hear that ticket sales are flat and hoping that TV numbers will be low. I’m not going to watch it. Surely it will negatively affect Chelsea and City’s prospects in the league next season as the players won’t have a break? Although longer term, the distortionary effect of such massive prize money in national leagues will become a big issue.
There is zero enthusiasm for it here in the states. I can’t see teams like Chelsea or city truly try and win it as the players are gassed and will have just come off an international break on top of a long, long season for a lot of them.
Infantino’s name is on the trophy twice. Says it all.
