Favourite Samples

Give us your favourite track featuring a great sample - could be a musical refrain, a vocal grab, movie dialogue - you know the score.

Here’s the tune that inspired the thread to get things rolling - a recent drum and bass 12" from Damian’s Ghost I purchased which uses the Cocteau Twins very nicely.

This one was the first to come to mind, think it was taken from a film but can’t remember which.

The guy who made Harlem Shake posts a lot of videos of him looking up samples on whosampled which are very enjoyable

Always loved how this uses A Taste of Honey’s “Rescue Me”

Orbital vs an easy listening record = chime. This sort of blew my mind a little bit. 3:30 onwards is where the magic happens…

I was going to post a Dilla track but there were too many to choose from that are all so special. This one slaps.

That has done me right in - all these years and I thought they’d played those elements.

I heard this for the first time the other day - bonkers record which samples Plastic Dreams with a ragga vocal and adds a breakbeat and dirty bassline

Space and sci fi vocal samples can be a bit cringe on occasion imo but this always gives me chills every time I listen to it -Rendlesham UFO incident according to YouTube-Not a massive drum and bass fan but Photek’s mid nineties output was next level

Photek is 100% in the top echelons of electronic music producers to come out of the UK.

At a time when so much music sounded the same, his couldn’t be mistaken for anyone else (same with martial arts samples, thanks Wu Tang)

before i go on a rabbit hole aka my entire itunes library + youtube playlists, here is the first one that came to mind : Coil sampling Robert Johnson’s Steady Rollin Man (1937) on this masterpiece :

Classic! I believe it was knocked out in an afternoon in the studio too.

Rather than being my favourite track with a sample, this is just one of 188 songs (according to whosampled) that use my favourite sample - the drum loop from Schoolly D’s “P.S.K. ‘What Does It Mean’?”
Pretty much any record with this beat has me pretending I’m 19 again.
