Anyone have any idea why Sunak called the election now? The only reason I can think is that he felt the longer he waited the worse it would be.

I think it was the kids will be breaking up and we can have a nice long holiday in California and I can do some job hunting whilst we’re there…

I think the football might have been a factor. Hoping there’d be a positive vibe in the country and also that people might not be focused on voting

I’ve got the fear already.
I can see it being much closer. there’ll be loads of those shy Tories and shy Reforms too embarrassed to admit who they voted for. Hopefully not but I’m still traumatised by the 1987 loss.
I’m thinking of bunging on one of the fentanyl patches I saved from a back injury and knocking myself out until it’s all over

4 years ago, the day after the election when BJ got the huge majority I was at a mates house for our golf society agm.
I know, I know but these are men I’ve known most of my life and we play golf once a year. We meet up beforehand to arrange everything, have dinner and drink.
After bringing up the election result it rapidly dawned on me that i was the only one in the room who hadn’t voted Conservative.
I couldn’t cope, I left the table lay down on the sofa, developed a huge headache and took no further part in the evening. I massively struggled with that realisation and still do.
Yesterday I sent the latest Jonathan Pie clip to the group saying that surely even they must’ve had enough by now.
The responses were interesting and from three separate constituencies not one of them is voting Tory again.
If the Eastbourne Open Golf Society is a bell-weather of the overall picture then the Cons are toast, Thank god!
