Didnt the Megadog trance thing join up with Hawkwind & Ozrics?
Morris Minor and The Majors was my cherry pop on hip hop. God it’s awful but aged 7 I loved it
When I was 7 or 8 and made my communion here in Ireland I bought two records, Pink Floyd’s another brick in the wall and a Barry Manilow album with the song Mandy on it… I still have both
Nothing wrong with that!
There he is!
Total quality both. What were your thoughts on Westlifes’s version? Presumably mixed feelings?
I’m going to have to get my Marillion days off my chest here too! In fact, an old school mate has bought me a ticket in nostalgia for Fish’s upcoming farewell tour so I’ll report back from the jester t shirt frontline
Ha - that’s a throwback. It was on his Essential Mix, heard him play it at the old Plastic People on Oxford St too. I just remember laughing!
I feel the need to split out Durty Secrets when into house & then House Durty Secrets
Did you cut up 2x copies of Praga Kan Injected with a poison (which sounded great on R6 t’other day’) whilst playing the Brassapella (those that know know) over the top?
WE NEED TO KNOW
When Nottingham was quiet mid 90s I occasionally frequented Miss Moneypennies as knew a few folk
Music was generally pants / ‘OK’ but I preferred the crowd to the Trance Techno scene that had few out fo prog & into MegaDog ( & also didnt like that music that much)
Bit of a generalisation but I picked glam girls & vocals
I just loved the name Mandy for some reason, then the first Mandy I met was a Traveller lol
Came to this thread to confess that Racey’s “Smash and Grab” was one of my first purchases, so I’m glad I’m not alone. They were quickly superseded by the much more dangerous KISS, a band that I can safely say became my first true obsession and one that set me on the path of “collecting” (back catalogue, clothing, posters, figurines, the whole shebang).
Brassapella? Will somebody please tell the DJ to put the brass disk on?
Presumably she came and took without giving?
Blimey!
Yeah, that’s quite something!
It always felt to me like there were no limits to bad taste in those years. A production line of trashy records put together by anonymous European production teams cashing in on the enormous continental market for cheesy riffs. I blogged about it a while back:
This was an era when it was not uncommon to hear crude Ben Liebrand inspired megamixes of all the big hits, turbo charged bangers featuring helium vocals, didgeridoos, panpipes, gregorian chants, church bells, syncopated orgasms, sampled cockerells, bagpipes, gunshots, Saddam Hussein warchants, cult Tarantino dialogue and pseudo-philosophical mantras on tracks. ‘No Go’ areas did not exist in the quest for novelty hits, with ever more questionable taste, longevity or quality control.
Have we got a thread on acapellas?
Feels like we need one…I’d love a WAV of the Whitney/I Wanna Dance With Somebody acapella to go full Sasha with Not Forgotten.
Good shout. Start a thread off, I’ve a few ready to go
I bought a copy of Doop by Doop on import 12” from Eastern Bloc and played it in public on more than one occasion.
