DJ History is coming back!

I loved DJhistory, and learned so much from the articles and interviews. I never really found it that cliquey. Be glad to see it up and running again, but I’m more than happy over here on TP.

I was on it too and found it fine. Found some great music through that forum. This place still tops it for general good vibes. Possibly a combination of social media burnout, lockdown and just nice people.

It doesn’t have to be one or the other…

Im 28 and never heard of these other places mentioned so I’m probably too young ha. TP is my first ever venture into a music forum and it’s a bloody jolly good place to be! I will be pretty sad if this place ever goes away or becomes inactive

Faith will be next. Backed by Defected so their forum will have big shiny glitterballs and the works

I don’t think Defective would allow Faith to be the board it was. That one is probably dead in the water.

Every forum has its place and, as @Apiento said, it’s the members that make it. Will be good to see Bill and Frank back too. Some amazing knowledge on that board bitd.

I spent a bit of time back on DJH back in the day. Was still buying vinyl back then and picked up a tonne of good musical tips and mixes for download.

Room for both of course but i love the balance you get here at TP. Loads of the non music related threads are just as good as all the other stuff and musically i’d say if anything it’s a bit broader here, plus obvs a nice bunch of peeps.

Good on ya everyone

I’ve been racking my brains, can anyone help? There was an amazing website in the early days of the internet (90s) that had loads of great articles & links to NYC & music history. Early Loft, Paradise Garage, all that. I can remember what it looked like (black & green I think) and that it had a cool name.

Not that helpful.

Anyone?

(AS ever, as soon as you ask the question you find the answer: Jahsonic, a vocabulary of culture )

I liked DJH, never encountered any bad vibes there but it could get a bit too beardy for me. Interested to see if they pull back their old base; times have moved on.

Faith on the other hand could be absolutely brutal, but wicked funny at the same time.

I think the rise of smart phones maybe also contributed to the demise of forums; those old php sites were impossible to view and contribute to on a phone, and even the desktop versions could be a pain in the arse. That’s one great thing about the TP forum, the usability is super nice across all devices.

There used to be US based forum Deep House Page (or Pages?) that loads of older dancers and DJ’s that would post mixes and stories from the Garage etc

I recall Todd Terje used to have a cool website with interviews. It was proper geeky, he would interview music producers about technical stuff, like he’d ask James Murphy about the sync box he used. I remember Morgan Geist saying things like MIDI is the worst thing that’s ever happened to music. Maybe not for everyone as too technical but I wish that would get going again. I don’t mind if Defected were to fund it. I managed to find an archived copy of the James Murphy one:

similarly to many i’ve loitered around in DJH, Faith, Cratediggers, Deephousepages, Beyond Jazz and probably my most active was the old Brownswood forum which grew out of Gilles P’s WW show, spawned it’s own occasional gathering (Fun Your Ear) and even had a compilation CD! Imagine!..

TP is may favourite so far… which is a credit to all, i suppose…

Anyone remember the yearly re-edit competitions on DHP around the 2000’s?

I’ve been on a couple of forums before social media took over. DJH was nice and tbh i think that this forum is similar when it comes to musical tastes. The most knowledgeable i’ve ever been on was Waxidermy, i learned so much there about records i had never seen or heard. I haven’t been active here as much as i thought i would.

Man I used to get stoned and just totally lose myself in Jahsonic. A total labor of love.
