A fine selector. My intro to everything. Him and Colin Faver

bemused by the thought of grooverider playing oi tbh. Just like I want to hear one of these mythical francois kay dubstep sets.

Also wrote that last night after having a mix at home from bh808303 into studio II - Dirty games into Omar Khorshid. Best of all possible worlds! Also best way to use the loop function, get those darbukas quantised!

I havent heard him actually play Dub Step but check his World of Echoes mixes

I  fact in an interview he said hearing LFO made him want to get back into DJing

Obviously just removed their tin foil hats.

Im sure he played some Dub Step at Festival Number 6 in 2012. I left and the tent was already quiet.

I mentione this before on here. He definitely played some DnB at Electric Elephant in 2010 which really took me by surprise. Though maybe that isnt that out of the ordinary for him?

DiY didnt just play ‘no nonsense heads down deep house’. Every DJ on the crew had their sound and you could tell pretty much immediately who was playing when you walked in/turned up.

yeah true, but they predominantly evolved and gravitated to that direction. Of course, speaking of heads down no nonsense deep house in 1992-1993 would be a bit quixotic.

Granted though, my definition of deep house is probably more expansive than most. Outside of the whole edm/electrohouse circuit I think most house has elements which can be found in deep house. For instance I wouldn’t draw a hard and fast line between garage and deep house.

Sam -Have you heard the Murk at Whicker Arches 2x mixes that or on the site
DIY helped put that night on & Callum warned up

Ive an interesting story about that night!

I haven’t, would like to hear it. Went to a great Smokescreen night at Whicker Arches in late 93, it was a cracking venue.

also tbh for me personally the late great Simon DK personified DIY and he was arguably the most deep house of them all. Granted, my exposure to that sound was mainly through tapes, so I might (most probably) have missed out on some context that wasn’t put to cassette for whatever reason.

"A friend from the afterparty texts me at around four that morning. “Did you catch Right Said Fred doing a set?” he says. “Loads of ppl didn’t know it was them I think.” I had no idea they were meant to turn up. He attaches a 12-second video. There they are, amid a sea of excited people. They look the same as they do in their 1990s music videos, wearing patterned caftans and rapping into their microphones. I recognise it clearly: the new sounds and styles of an unstoppable subculture. "

I do wonder what his peers think, he still gets booked and presumably hangs out at venues and around the crowds.

The entire thing just sounds surreal. Having certain shitty political views is one thing but this just doesnt sound like an enjoyable event at all?

All i can think of is that the people attending had no form of reference for whats good and were just happy to be part of what they thought was an exclusive event. The massive twats.
