Christmas music that isn’t shit

Not an easy category for the discerning music lover to navigate with so much absolute rubbish.

So what’s your go to Christmas cuts to get the party started?

honestly - there’s only one, right? anything else made in the last ohhhhh thousand years can’t compare:

EDIT: i didn’t realize that this was “to get the party started” - i just thought “there’s only one true christmas song” and yep, this is it. it may not “slap” as the kids say these days.

EDIT PART 2: read the youtube comments and you’ll see i’m not at all wrong.

video is uh… “of the times” but it really is a bit of a jam:

Undoubtedly the best of the usual Christmas playlist

this is recorded and pressed terribly - thin and hissy like, like it was strictly for AM car radio speakers but i always found use for it in clubs. it sucks, i’ll admit it. but it’s aaaaaabsolutely better than hearing “wonderful christmastime” again ad nauseum.

this was a “new” christmas song when i was a little kid and got a LOT of play on radio. it’s since been forgotten here in the states, but it’s due for a revival.

not much funnier than watching them (especially the dude) humming the, uh… humming part.

EDIT: i played this video a bunch for my daughter and for a christmas season or two i got to hear a lil’ 4-5 year old sing this quietly to herself after i put her to bed and i don’t think there’s a better feeling in the world to hear a tiny voice try to nail the harmonies by herself.

EDIT Part TWO: hovering right around 112 BPM, this is right in the pocket. should have played this back when i was a working DJ.

There’s also a Salsoul Orchestra Christmas LP. Similar vibes

We also need music for the early part of the party. This fits that perfectly

ok, bringing out the big gun early - i don’t think there’s a modern “christmas song” that hits so hard (and a bit below the belt) than this one. doesn’t even need sleigh bell sounds.

POW right in the feels

i love yoko but to me this is the best version and mmmmmaybe it wasn’t meant to be a christmas song but i’ve put it on tons of christmas playlists:

since i’m feeling super-indie and somewhat sad (this season does this to me) i’ll bless you with another damn-near-forgotten pacific NW original:
