it’s maybe closer to house and all, but the shambolic wicked/hardkiss/dubtribe/doc folks did things that could have never happened anywhere but the west coast.
This also sounds like a conversation to be had with Dirty Dave and/or Scotty Coats who are two of the most balearic dudes alive, and fantastic gents to boot.

I was trying to find that last track last night. Thank you.
ooh yes, I was about to suggest Woolfy. Loved this Invisible Conga People remix a few years back
Hugh Herrera would fit the bill for someone along these lines, used to love his mixes bitd and a soundtrack to many a schlep up and down the PCH looking for waves.
This drop of California balaeric sunshine from Project Sandro should fit the bill:
This hits hard (softly) as well:
And speaking of Sunshine Jones, playing this at 33rpm is a Calaeric chug monster:
Tony Watson as well, and @mikebee from this very forum who owns Vinyl Dreams in SF would be another one to nail down the Calearic sound.
Tony Watson’s Dub in the Wax track is something else
+1 for Project Sandro. This is one that’s also deeply Cal and quite lovely:
oh yes, that’s the vibe. thank you for the example. that led me to their bandcamp where i’m finding other stuff that fits, like this one: Club Meds / Fata Morgana | Pacific Horizons
Given the name of their label and that track, there seems to be an Austin Osman Spare référence going on.
That one is great. That album’s now in my bandcamp shopping cart. Thank you!
Wow. Needed this in my life. Definitely playing this out. And the vinyl is affordable on Discogs. Thank you.
