Brit Funk - A Very British Genre

Been digging out Brit funk records after hearing Bluey from Incognito interviewed recently .
After lovers rock, one of the first genres of black dance music that is recognisably British. Was also very influential on British charts acts , you could hear it in the music of Spandau Ballet and Wham.

Couple of my favourites but, as ever, looking for more contributions.

Slight deviation, but I’ve always loved this riff on London Town from Japan….

Will forever associate this song with the slot that Froggy used to have on Peter Powell’s Radio 1 show where he would play tracks that were ā€œhappeningā€ in night clubs. 13 year old me’s first encounter with dance music.

Elixia/ Soho Phaze always stands out to me.

Also worth checking the Dave Lee / ZRecords Brit Funk comps (which this was actually included on). I’m not an expert on the genre but I’d say the 2 vols are pretty comprehensive and a great way to get started.

Some obvious, some less so.

( I saw a great comment on a video of this track once that said ā€œJamiroquai owe this guy a drinkā€)
