Heading down to Brighton for the weekend 13/14 Feb. Any recommendations as to eateries/vinyl emporia/nights out from the TP crew?
Have eaten here couple of times, really good.
@reubenturner 's your man but my 2p based on infrequent annual visits
Mr Bongos for records
boozers:
Sussex Arms for a Sunday roast
Victory Inn good for evening nosh IIRC (I know the guy who does the poetry sessions upstairs)
Hand in Hand is tiny but has all the charm (top end of Kemptown)
Lime & Lobster for quizzes
The Cooperās Cask (Hove) - super Sunday roasts, occasional DJs at weekend (where I met my missus 12 years ago!)
The West Hill for a balearic knees up
thereās one on Western Road IIRC that looks like a boudoir - good fun for a pitstop
thereās another good one heading up to Brighton station where people play chess
Avoid: West Streetā¦& the Harvester (there was a RAT in there last timeā¦)
Thatās awesome! Thanks - plenty to check out and no harvestersā¦
If youāre in the North Laine then the Basketmakers and Heart in Hand (basically Brighton is stuffed with good pubs). I also love the Colonnades which is by the Theatre.
And Alphabet has a āhi fiā pub which is great for cocktails & music, a hidden gem.
Itās also full of good places to eat, depending what you like. Thereās a new Dishoom outpost in the Lanes.
For a good boho cafe I like Kennyās Rock & Soul cafe on Kensington Gardens. There are plenty of good but identikit Gailās style places for coffee, Flowerpot Bakery is a good one. Either that or Trading Post on Sydney St are the best people-watching spots in town.
Records
I donāt think Mr Bongoās is open to the public.
Resident has records and books but nothing you wouldnāt find anywhere else.
Dream Street records has recently opened, run by a nice guy from my wifeās home town, selling his own collection, nice place to drop in for a chat.
Across the Tracks is worth a dig for second-hand. And Snoopers Paradise will have loads of record stalls in it.
Iām not sure whatās on that weekend. Anyway hit me up if you have specific questions, happy to help.
Iāve not been for a few years but for second hand records I usually visit:
Rarekind
Across The Tracks
Wax Factor
Snoopers Paradise
Ta @reubenturner - much appreciated. Iāll DM you if I need more info.
Forgot all about Rarekind - yes a top-notch suggestion
Also, duh, Capsule Records in Hove
They also do a calendar of vinyl nights across the city
Another one for the list of great pubs is the Great Eastern, on Trafalgar Street.
Couple of doors away from Rarekind Records, super friendly and always has a good DJ playing on a Saturday.
my mate owns The Well, thereās a relatively new one in Hove with fine beers, wines and selectors every weekend, just along the road from Capsule. The OG branch is in Kemptown.

grub wise - youāre spoilt for choice. iād recommend here but youāll have to book in advance as itās v popular
Thereās also the new 1BTN hifi bar
Hove is like another country to me. Itās actually annoying to see things happening there after 200 years of irrelevance.
Sadly The West Hill Tavern is no longer the home of the ābalearic knees upā.
New owners since Christmas. The pizzas and cracking roasts have also gone.
The Windmill on Upper North St has regular weekend DJs and great food.
Thereās new places to eat opening every week.
Preston St has Halisco, Bincho and The Royal Sovereign which is a good boozer.
Sohoās Taro has recently opened on Ship St and that part of town has loads of eats.
Great cocktails at Clementine & Co on Duke St
Also The Open Market is worth a stroll around. Off London Road (the real Brighton!)
Vinyl Selector in there plus some great food
I love the Greek place in particular. Last time I went to Streets (which will be the last time) it definitely qualified as a greasy spoon, in that all the cutlery was indeed greasy.
wow, had no idea about the west hill changing hands, thanks for update. potentially over in May for my Dadās birthday and had planned on popping in! where does balearic Brighton mostly congregate now?
Heart & Hand is a cracking boozer
And it has Westons Vintage on tap! A rarity.
Couldnāt say. The Guilty Feet lot have not been seen in town since the change in owners. Itās all mid week bingo and tribute singers now in the West Hill, with a menu of hot and cold baguettes!
Monthly Brighton Sundae at Patterns (the Escape club)
The Windmill and Great Eastern are good for a pub foot tap but donāt have the space like the West Hill
My local The Crescent (7 Dials area) had Pete Heller on NYE. The might have May bank holidays planned.
