Boy George / Jesus Loves You / Culture Club etc…

Was at a short film premier last night about the choreographer Ryan Heffington (he’s done lots of amazing things) and he did a piece of dance using Victims by Culture Club. Have to say it sounded pretty special… He’s made so many good records and was a club face / dj obviously…

Which got me thinking there was a record that used the really fun bit out of I’ll Tumble 4 Ya…

Here was the short…

Do You Really Want To Hurt Me and Time (Clock of the Heart) are brilliant, brilliant records. I love his cover of The Crying Game too.

Edit: well worth reading his autobiography, a really entertaining read and great chronicle of the early 80s. He writes about how his first line of coke was with Larry Levan!

Only grew up with the CC hits on retro radio but in high school was obsessed with KLF - Chill Out and via that discovered this one, always felt it was special—the mood, the lush beats, and the lyrics cribbed from Earth, Wind, & Fire

endless lovely bangers, from the pop hits to the Generations of Love stuff, the ballads and, setting aside the Handbag House stuff, he still comes through with soulful and sun drenched stuff like this

Time & Victims are so good
Remember I’ll Tumble 4 You at Venus / Most Excellent one night

From More Protein the Grid Mix of Bow Down Mister is amazing & Love on Love which he co wrote is my guilty pleasure banger

MP helped by having Bruce Forest as in house producer before anyone wrote about Better Days

This tribute to the Nun who educated a lot of Jamaican Reggae musicians, produced by Rusty Egan, brings a lot of threads together (and sounds like a dubbed out ‘Model’ which is no bad thing

I think the Martyr Mantras is a pretty flawless LP. There were a shed load of remixes for Generations of Love, but this mix and the Future Dub are still sounding great & I have been playing them out again.

Such a great album. Always been struck by this version of “Generations…” and this performance with his live vocal. Gorgeous.

Does anyone know anything about the Bam Bam acid mix of Culture Club’s Miss Me Blind?
It’s mentioned in this interview:

I managed to find a clip of it apparently recorded from a radio show where George was a guest.
Don’t know if it ever got released?

My school mates GF was fiends via Philp Sallon as he used to frequent her dads Fancy Dress ( or similair West end shop) so went out a few times

Which ever book launch was mid 90s was fancy dress so he went as a school girl hockey player with stick & got so drunk he rememmbered nothing

There were stories in tabloids next day about someone getting attacked with a hockey stick ( probably not him but…)
