Battle of the Albums - Blue Lines Vs Screamadelica

We’re just having a chat on our mates WhatsApp group. Blue Lines Vs Screamadelica.

Hands down win for me for Blue Lines - all over sound and and soul - but my trusted mate has gone for Screamadelica…

Blue Lines no contest - but I think Primal Scream are shite and Massive Attack the best band of the 90s so an easy one for me :grinning:

i’d say that screamadelica has higher highs and lower lows, but blue lines is pound-for-pound better.

Blue Lines for me :green_heart:

Just realised i’ve never heard Screamadelica. But BL is a stone cold.

Blue Lines by Massive for me, all day.

Bought mine during the Gulf War, so the ‘Attack’ got removed from copies at the time :man_shrugging:t2:.

They’re both classics imo but i’d pick Blue Lines as well although Protection is my fave MA album, absolutely love that LP.

I love both and both lead me down many a rabbit hole but Blue Lines still stops me in my tracks.

Screamadelica for me. Was never a fan of Massive Attack (maybe the Dub remix album at a pinch).

Unfinished Sympathy has to be the most overrated/over exposed track of all time? :grimacing::thinking:

Blue Lines by a country mile.

Screamadelica. Both great albums, but for me Screamadelica is the perfect expression of those years. It’s the spirit of the early 90’s with the highs and lows and even a cover that sums it up perfectly.

Same (I had the cassette though, for shame)

Blue Lines. Every time. Had the 12 mix of Safe From Harm on the other day, must be a tonne of unheard mixes from that time that would be great to hear…

I love both but not too keen on the rock ballads on Screamadelica. So Blue Lines for me.

I’m going to do Five Man Army on karaoke one day and I will absolutely nail it.

Blue Lines, though I do love them both. Out of curiosity, I checked Discogs - ratings wise, they’re basically the same, but Blue Lines has twice the number of votes. (I have no idea if that means anything!)

blue lines. I listened to it the other day for the first time in years and still blows me away. slightly biased as I’m about to move to bristol and never been the biggest primal scream fan

Twice as good surely

Massive Attack were heralded as geniuses when they weren’t all that imo. Who needs Daydreaming when you’ve got Wally Badarou? Was never massively arsed about Screamadelica either. Come Together goes on and on. Did my head in eventually.

Screamadelica for me. I connected to it in a way I didn’t with Blue Lines, the soaring highs and comedown lows. Blue Lines is a great album but Screamadelica gets my vote. We had Movin’ On Up as the first dance at our wedding :grinning:

Screamadelica was a much bigger part of my life at the time so I’d say it has more personal resonance, which is all that counts in these matters. Impossible for me to say which is objectively “better”.
