To complement the Nengue release in December that Hierbas alerted us to, here’s another remix of Los Ninõs de Los Parque from the Slow Motion crew. Name your own price.

A collection of early and rare underground British psychedelic house gems from 1989, blending the trippy, mind-expanding sounds of machine funk, new beat, industrial / ebm and samplers with the birth of acid house wonderland.

is there or was there ever an actual thing called psychedelic house?

Am thinking stuff I used to hear out that was deeply trippy played very late on but not easily defined, I dunno maybe Hieroglyphic Being or Tin Man, or maybe thinking of slightly smackier energy than Detroit house? IIRC DJ Alex used to sometimes play this stuff at Voices much to the dismay of the disco crew

I guess we already have it well covered in the deep house and floaters threads?

I think one man’s psychedelic house is another’s minimal/progressive etc.

I think we’re getting too carried away with genres and sub-genres, after all like Duke Ellington said, “there’s only three types of music; good, bad and floaty bangers.”

(Also a psychedelic house thread could be super interesting).

If there was a psychedelic house thread that wonky exist dance stuff is a fit. Some of that is great.

Then here is the gray area.

Is this a floaty banger or psychedelic house?

There was definitely a psychadelic (though non-acid) vibe to late 80s house.

I did an edit of this (I’ll leave it here for a minute) if anyone wants it… My gf does that ‘pretends to take a shot’ thing whenever I say ‘i did an edit of that’ when something comes on that I er… you get the gist…

Nice. Thank you.

Id counter it cant be psych & have pianos ( great record hough)

Fair point. The breakdown and following couple of minutes are the psych bit. Before the piano comes back and it’s “just” a killer house tune again.

Michael J Blood goes housey
