This is a great tip from FK’s recent Deep Space stream… He played track 3 which is good but 5 (synthesia) and 10 (intercourse) are the stand out ones for me. Check it out
Yup. My fave album so far this year.
After a 15 year hiatus, new Terrace (Stefan Robbers - Eevo Lute) album is out, very nice!
I’m thrilled to release my new album: Some Kind Of Paradise.
I nearly ditched this project so many times. What even is an album in 2025? When our listening habits are increasingly shaped by algorithmic playlists, shuffled singles, and 15-second dopamine hits, the idea of an album as a cohesive, intentional body of work feels almost radical. Are they even relevant? Or just an elaborate calling card?
I began work on these tracks shortly after my first album ‘Exotic Language’ in 2019 and hoped to quickly follow that up with a companion piece of sorts. So six years is probably a bit too long a wait between albums, especially in a world where creatives are under constant pressure to feed the revolving content machine. Obviously, I don’t exist to create art to feed the insatiable algorithm, but it’s sometimes hard to block out those external forces during the process.
The truth is, it’s really really f-cking difficult to write an album. The energy and inspiration that was sloshing around my first one was a lot harder to find at times, and I just had to dig a lot deeper to unearth the ideas and break through the blocks to reach the end. And so the theme of this album changed over time. While my first LP paid homage to the deeper dance records I loved growing up as a DJ, this one is less of a club record. Some Kind Of Paradise draws more from the downtempo, trip hop, and street funk records of the early ’90s — all filtered through my version of the modern Balearic lens. If you’ve heard my DJ sets the last few years, you’ll know I love those lazy, dusty not-quite-break-beat records that sound so loose and groovy. I tried really hard to bring that vibe to Some Kind Of Paradise, and hopefully it comes through. There is even some guitar work and for the first time, vocals from myself. The production and artwork was created entirely by me, but I must call out Sam at The Wall Studio for the fantastic mastering job.
I still believe an album is an artistic statement that carries a personal story, and so it was important for me to release this on physical formats.
I’m super proud of how it sounds. Hopefully you’ll like it too.
The record and CD are out now on Bandcamp, and streaming everywhere else. Why don’t you join the on-line listening party with me on Bandcamp this Wednesday at 7.30pm
Much love x
Nice one Joe!
Top stuff, Joe! Looking forward to giving it a spin this afternoon!
I generally feel that my world has plenty of modern trip hoppy balearica but I needed some morning listening. By track two I could hear the labor of love. Nice one. On track four now and not leaving the sun strewn living room until the end of the ride. Cheers from the lush humid Iowa USA summertime.
Great to see it released without the months of hype and build up lol and on the day I passed my last exam of the year woo hoo
Yeah decided to just drop it blind. I dont see the point in the traditional long PR run anymore
And congrats in the exam!
good stuff!
What are you studying?
I’m really feeling the last track. Distribution to the US or no?
Yes last track my fave
