Question for digital file/bandcampers:
How much time do you give a track when evaluating?
One swipe/two?
Or listen all the way through?
Been scanning music so long now I can usually tell in about 10-15 seconds of swiping…having said that I have missed a few gems that on later evaluation sounded better than I initially thought.

For most tunes, same as in the old days in a record shop: listen to the intro, bassline dropping, the groove, the breakdown. 4 needle drops and you know most of what you need to know.
Depends how much time I have and how expensive the track is. If you have to buy the whole album or it’s a £5 track, I’d listen to more, possibly the whole thing.

I usually start with a few swipes. Some tracks, I know immediately and purchase. Some go on the wishlist for further evaluation

Two or three swipes. I know what tempo and style I’m looking for and if it doesnt hit that in 10 or 20 seconds it’s its a no from me, Clive
If I’m pushed for time they go on the Wishlist where I might listen further
