Antigua (Guatemala) Anyone?

Anyone been? Any recommends?

We went years ago, had a great time but all a bit hazy now. The ‘beach for every day of the year’ strap line is true, amazing array of places to sun and swim. Shirley Heights lookout point is a must, beautiful view of the coastline.

Rent a car. Beaches are pretty incredible - Formentera reminded us of Antigua. Half Moon Bay was maybe our favourite…

Nice one!

As Andy mentions, Shirley Heights is a must, The weekly sunset party and bbq is ace, Also i recommend a trip to devils bridge, it’s pretty amazing. There used to be a little shack of a bar called Marys Outhouse which was ace as well, i’m not sure it’s still there but if it is it’s well worth spending an afternoon or evening there (It was above the Pineapple Beach hotel on top of a hill over looking the sea). As for the beaches, theres so many, ask one of the locals to recommend one that’s deserted, we stumbled upon one on a walk to devils bridge and pretty much had it to ourselves every day. Enjoy :+1:

I love these but I think they are the wrong Antigua : )

Ohh :joy::joy::joy: . I really didnt know there was more than one Antigua. Sorry dude! Anyway hope you have a boss time at the other Antigua  (which i just googled and it looks stunning!)

Are you just going to Antigua or are you interested in other parts of Guatemala?

We’re here in Antigua and then moving to the big lake in a day or so… Any tips by the lake greatly appreciated.

Titicaca?

Just had a quick look back at our photos to remind myself what we did but appears we spent most of our time round lake atitlan and a place called lanquin, sorry - not much use!

We did half Antigua and half the lake and surrounding towns. We stayed in Santiago which is a lovely town and our hotel was right on the lake. We started each day with a sauna and then a jump in the lake surrounded by those beautiful mountains / volcanos.

It really is a special country. The people are just so warm hearted too. Highly recommend it to anyone. Keen to go back already and Belize is next on the list. Will try and add some photos when I get them together.

What’s Belize like? It looks amazing.

We went in 2011 and loved it. Spent a week in Placencia on the coast which was a really chilled town with nice beach and lots of decent food options. Amazing wildlife - birds, manatees, dolphins, sharks. The cays are beautiful with crystal clear water for snorkelling and diving.

If you haven’t seen it then worth watching the latest Celebrity Race Across the World series which went through Central America. Whetted my appetite to explore further.
