Yeah Strange brew is a top spot - I’m very close to Southville, juts the other side of North Street in Ashton - be nice to say hello at some point - am often playing round town - will post up in here when we are next out and about.

Sat on the fence re Sabres so long I had splinters and was more or less gonna let it go until I randomly got a call this avo from an old pal who was at the Herbal Tea Party with me 30 odd years ago when I saw them last.
Haven’t seen him since those days. He lives in Cheltenham spotted they are on in Bristol and rang me to see if I was up for it.

Think the early ALFOS nights were at the Waiting Room in Stoke Newington, the club below The Three Crowns on the corner of Church St/SN High Street. There’s a mocked up blue plaque outside as a tribute to “The Guvnor.”
I was living about 10 mins walk away at the time (and still do) but never went for some reason or another. Probably because it was on a work night.
Also lived a few minutes walk from the now near legendary Total Refreshment Centre, which was a semi legal night in an old Turkish social club and the epicentre of London’s nu jazz scene a few years ago. Never went to that either. Perhaps i should start a thread called “were you too lazy to go to legendary club nights?”

Was having a flashback the other day to a party he did at the ill-fated CABLE (a very expensive James Baillie project that didn’t last too long). I don’t suppose anyone else was there or has the audio?
I went to the opening party where Sean was warming up for I think AW but left early as the soundsystem was so bad

I don’t really remember it inside, apart from some partition in the middle. Was a total commercial disaster I think. There might have been a Boys Own around that time too or was that SE1 (different venue?) I do recall Lisa Loud making a dramatic appearance entering through a fence clutching an award she’d won earlier in the evening
I went to one Strutt (somewhere in Kings Cross I think) but sadly it wasn’t Weatherall. It was at the height of the Goa trance phase and sadly some bloke was playing insanely fast madness on DATs. We didn’t hang around very long…

A group of friends went regularly. I only went once. Can’t remember where or when or who was playing. Pretty standard for 96! Happily no memory of Goa trance

Very good article. I’ve never been part of the cult but I did still feel the loss like everyone. The legacy is strong though in countless records, spin-off parties and festies around the world.
