I’ve really been dreaming of hearing something new from Vini Reilly since a, long, long time, specially after reading an interview where he suggested that, because of his health, he felt his guitar playing wasn’t good enough anymore
The Durutti Column is possibly my favourite Factory project. I listen to anything from them and the word that keeps spiralling in my mind is “fantastic, beautiful” and so on. It puts me in another mental territory where I literally forget everything mundane.
I’ve always thought that Vini is one of the most sensible musicians to ever walk this world, and the same goes for Bruce Mitchell.
Well, it turns out The Durutti Column has finally actually put something out.
Two tracks are already available on Bandcamp, and there are already consistent signals that this will be one of my favourite albums ever.
Let’s appreciate The Durutti Column, Vini Reilly, Bruce Mitchell, and such a sublime return.
Great thread! I got a bootleg tape of them in '87 - it had demos and live stuff from their early career (Manchester Uni if memory serves me well). It blew my young mind and left a really strong impression. Just beautiful music. I read that article too and it’s great to see that Vini has released new material since then. I just bought this cd and highly recommend it. It was new to me. Some absolute gems on it. 1990
Have a load of music on my phone and shuffle 1000 odd tracks and do alot of walking. Everytime something off that comes on it catches me to check what’s playing. Think it was Requiem Again that struck me the other week.
Love this album. Once I was at a bar and My Irascible Friend was playing. I saw someone being reduced to tears from the beginning to the end of the track, I came to check if everything was fine or could help in any way, and it turns out that I could help identifying the track, that’s the DC effect to me
long time DC fan here, was pleasantly surprised by the new album. i don’t know why, it was like i expected a letdown, even though i’ve enjoyed pretty much all of the previous records.
