Albums For Autumn

Summer’s gone, getting chilly, it’s getting darker in the mornings and evenings, what albums do folk on here reach for at this time of year?

One of my go to autumn choices is this one. Feels a bit folky, maudlin, and even a bit pagan. Which pretty much sums up the season to me.

Top pick! Saw them at the Royal Albert Hall 10 years ago or so. She actually had an attack of stage fright at one point but quickly recovered. I think some in the crowd were hoping for more strict machine vintage robodisco dancefloor energy, but that night was more about the pastoral folkier stuff . She was mesmerising. Totally owned the place. And the sound there obvs was top notch.

Just put this one on last night, perfect for autumn

Big fan of this one as well - gorgeous country cover of Jackson Browne’s “These Days” and my favourite rendition of “Seven Bridges Road”.

These have been getting a spin this week. Not helping my cause in trying to convince my girlfriend we don’t need the heating on yet.

The Ring Of The Rise album by Micah Blue Smaldone always does it for me when fall draws in. I do need it loud though. Especially my favourite song “Time”.

Astral Weeks always gets a spin chez Barry at this time of year

Lore of the Land by The Order of the 12 is an autumnal high point.

This album always gets pulled out as the leaves start falling and the mornings get colder - possibly more end of November than early oct… Between Tides | Roger Eno

Nothing channels the nights closing in and melancholy autumn feelings like basically any album by The Clientele. Too many to choose from but I absolutely love these…

Gotta be this for me. Even the sleeve is Autumnal. Get this on with a full bodied Malbec or a nice single Malt

Not sure it’s especially autumn, but pulled this out today for the first time in ages. Sounded perfect.

I mean… the title track is probably up there as one of my favourite tunes ever.

There’s the obvious tear-jerker, but this whole album is a great listen. Amazing guitar work.

And lastly this.

Used to listen to this a lot at this time of year. Nothing to do with mushrooms at all…
