Got sent this by a mate the other day. Pretty much sums up.the early 90’s. Looks like ive just been liberated from a Thai POW camp.

This was Pai in '94 - came home weighing 10 stone…

Did you get to any of the goa parties around that time? Guess it would almost have been peak in 1994

On a similar tip, Tripping balls, Phangan 1990

Ha! I’ll dig out some of mine. Will look remarkably similar…. Great days.

No, never made it. Was due to go in '96, but then fell in love and moved to New Zealand.

Spent three months on Phangan ealier on the trip above. Hated the FMPs, tbh and had a very blissful time on Thong Nai Pan Noi instead.

Missed any Full Moon business that trip, mate had a full blown existential crisis and wouldn’t come out of his hut for weeks. ‘This place is too fucking beautiful’ think he missed Finborough Road and the sound of thundering taxis…

I just found Haadrin too full on with loads of wallys. Plus a couple of days before, I’d inadvertently ingested enough myshrooms for 10 people, apparently, so was having a bit of a crisis myself. My mates found me curled up under a table…with my walkman speakers clamped to my ears, just going “My name’s Chris, I’m 22, I’m going to be alright…” That probably clouded my judgement somewhat

Back Yard Bar was good fun though.

Thong Nai Pan Noi is heaven indeed, as I remember from 25 years ago

Not the same place anymore, sadly. Been completely taken over by large resorts.

Been trying to find some old photos - we stayed at Bio’s Dynamic Kitchen for weeks - amazing homemade natural yoghurt and honey, and Bio was a proper chiller, with his German wife - both absolutely lovely.

Then had to move to Star Huts, as prople had pre-booked Bio’s. And finally stayed at the place at the very far end of the bay, whos name i forget (Pan?)

I went back briefly in '96 on the way to NZ, back again in '98 on the way home, and then again in 2000. Each time the place was getting more and more accessible.

Now, you can get large boats directly into the bay, all the smaller players have lost their leases and it’s all high end operators. (According to a mate who is very high up in Trailfinders, and who too loved it in the 90s)

Star Huts indeed, stayed there too!
I remember a very bumpy ride from Thong Sala Pier through the inland of the island, only to arrive at a breathtaking view from the beach at Noi. There was also something acoustically special about the bay I thought, you could hear everything so crystal clear there.

Thailand 1992. Classic 50 baht beach hut. Chillum and weed in easy reach. Good times.
