What don't you get

Definitely all off for me and any ‘colleagues’, but all personal taste.

I love Instagram as a professional diary of what I am up to. Gardeners, like music obsessives, are really generous with their knowledge, so I learn loads from it. Totally agree that selfie posters are to be avoided at all costs.

Depends what you use it for. Its the only social media platform I ever joined and in my opinion is great for all things cultural, personal interests, business and keeping in touch with friends/relatives.

I was txting on WhatsApp to a mate about gaming laptops, mentioned I wasn’t in the market for an Alienware, this morning Alienware Ad in my Insta feed. I hate Facebook. This kind of bullshit boils my blood.

I agree, I love photography and the commonality you can find with people all over the world who like the same kind of images. No arguing, no politics, no egos or self-promotion, just beauty whatever that means to you. So when it was/is like that it’s brilliant.

But lots of photographers are saying their images aren’t being seen now, the algorithm is prioritising videoss, sales posts and people in bikinis. Sad really.

Get off What’s App. It’s encryption isn’t end to end despite what they say, and Facebook targeted ads are a result of that

I like instag for music tips, rare historical pix and keeping in touch with people i can never be arsed to privately message.

Selfies, self-promoters, boring tourist pix, beautiful people, anyone shamelessly networking, crawling up djs’ arses to get reflected glory, are all automatic mutes though

Mostly use mine as a diary of spanish life, with no agenda at all.

It is a bit childish. Ding ding ding. I shout which always does the trick

Fancy dress. Up to about the age of 9 I dressed up as a soldier, cowboy, builder, you name it. I even fractured my skull whilst dressed up as Spiderman but I was over it by 9. Seeing full grown adults going to parties, clubs, football and cricket matches dressed up like children is not for me. Looooooosers. Possibly worse than fully grown adults in football tops when not playing football. Possibly.

Fancy dress full stop. I either avoid fancy dress parties or turn up like a twat in normal dress

I work for a company that insists on it at our annual kick offs. Forced merriment never ever works.

I deactivated FB after reading Jaron Lanier’s book recommended on this very forum. Having graduated uni in 2010 so much of life 2005-2015 was on FB - it’s mind-boggling to realize it. At the onset getting off it was traumatic in a way. Now I hardly miss it at all. I enjoy the curatorial aspects of IG and have met a lot of lovely people but agree that FB has really taken it down a notch.

I dumped FB and it was the same. Tough for a couple of weeks then now hardly noticeable that I don’t have it. I’m dumping Twitter next, that one truly isn’t good for your mental health.

Twitter is a cesspit, unbelievably bad for both individuals and society in my opinion

PS I think I read that book too
