A recommendation for anyone interested. The Peregrine by J. A. Baker. The best nature writing ever written imo that is a (ultimately impossible) radical, yet Sublime attempt to transcend the Human into the non-Human world.
I’ve been enjoying digging into this fun look at the design, marketing and contents of crisp packets by ex-NME mainstay Simon Williams which is out next month (my wife has a review copy).
I’m sure those of a nerdy persuasion will enjoy the nostalgia, esp any flexidisc collectors
First record I ever owned was a flexidisc that came with Oink! magazine.
I’ve still got the 1981 Smash Hits Christmas Party flexi, featuring a distinctly bristly Paul Weller who unsurprisingly sounds like he’d rather be doing something else ![]()
This is a great one - and I would recommend to anyone the NYRB Classics series…they are consistently amazing (and I love the design).
One of the wildest things about this book is imagining an Essex like he describes
Co-sign this. The NYRB Classics imprint is pretty reliable (also great in a similar vein: McNally Editions), and The Peregrine is one of their coolest titles. Love this book.
I fancy this
