I was never hugely into watching athletics, but I’ve been enjoying it this week.
Yesterday I thought I’d watch all 20 mins of this, buildup and everything without knowing too much about it in advance. Almost imagining it was live
The Northern Soul scene is facinating. I wasn’t old enough to go to Wigan Casino but my eldest brother was a regular, and he met his wife there who worked in the cloak room. They’ve told me some amazing stories, and they remind me so much of my early days of going to raves around the North West. The DJ’s, the all nighters, the after parties, the hard to find records, the clothes, the mood enhancers etc.
It’s quite big down Here in Oz, mainly a UK expat scene. The age of the punters is starting to mean that the Annual state weekenders and National events are dwindling in numbers a little but the recent Sydney weekender event had several hundred through the doors, which is typical. So many rules though.
The full length version is quite a trip.
Not sure if it was 2018/19 but they re-opened the room one more time to the public. It was part of Blackburns annual maker festival, where Martyn Ware (Heaven 17) had been commissioned to create a sound installation within the space (Industrial sounds blended with conversation and music). He was hanging around talking to the visitors and opening up about the project. The place was in time warp condition (bar prices, pump headers, posters etc). We headed to the cathedral to make badges with Swifty and hear a talk later on in the day. Well worth a day out if you’re in that neck of the woods.
I’m surprised at how inarticulate Weller is here, he’s very very young eh?!
