Shirley from Slow Horses
Took me a minute (three days)
Legendary character
Sorry, but I’ll never forgive her for trying to fuvk with the detectorists. ![]()
I find her mesmerising and cool as throughout the whole thing
Really enjoyed this.
Saw them at the big chill 2006. Probably in my top three gigs of all time. Superb.
Couple of decent films I watched this weekend:
Black Bag. Smart, twisty British spy thriller from Steven Soderbergh. Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett as married spooks trying to uncover a conspiracy. Tight and taut at 90 minutes long it doesnt outstay its welcome.
Heretic. Hugh Grant is great as Hugh Grant but with a deeply sinister side as he puts two yound Mormon sisters through a test of faith. Raises interesting questions about religion, theology and control.
Watched Gone Girls the Gilgo beach murders doc on Netflix.
Better than a lot of true crime docs I’ve seen …shocking 70s era misogyny of the police stalling investigation for over a decade
Reminded me of the movie Copland…
Is that about The Police.
Ba-dum-tish…
Sorry.
Fixed it.![]()
That DA and the Chief of Police were real pieces of work, probably only the tip of the iceberg of what they were charged with and what they’d really been getting away with over the years/decades, Copland a very apt comparison.
Undefendable that the police had been given a good, solid description of the perp, height and type of vehicle he drove, and did nothing about it but not surprising sadly, it’s happened many times before in these types of cases.
Well, thought the White Lotus finale was pretty good. Not up there with S1 and S2 but not bad. Pretty much a feel bad ending. Not all of it landed, some of it silly and bit of a stretch.
Onto The Last Of Us which beings this Sunday. Hyped
Less impressed with the white lotus than I was after the first two series. It took a long time to get nowhere much, and I guessed the big reveal in the first episode.
Same. Left a bit empty by the finale. Was still pretty great just a bit boring and pretty great.
Episode 1 of the new Black Mirror. Still one of the best TV series out there.
Yes similar - I really enjoyed the series but felt the ending was a bit disappointing. Still one of the best things around though.
Primal Scream: The Lost Memphis Tapes (iPlayer)
Just confirmed that Bobby Gillespie is a massive bellend.
Let me guess, did he invent the Delta Blues aged 12 on the bus whilst reading Marx?
Massive twat ![]()
I think they focused on being a bit cute with the messaging and easter eggs than catering to what the audience might want. There was a LOT to digest
SPOILERS TO FOLLOW
Every main character who died looked up and saw nothing as they slipped away. The only one who saw anything was also the only person who wasn’t searching for something (money, spirituality, connection, answers, revenge) to improve their life. The only thing that person wanted was to help others. At the beginning of the very first episode the events happen in a very different way to the end of the last episode (no monkey with a phone, no bodies floating by, no Zion in the water, etc). Why is that? The message around Belinda and how she behaves toward Pornchai once her situation changes, and how it echoes how she was treated is pretty delectable. What influences her desire, what influences Mook’s desire. Also the general theme of money- the “brotherly love” arc I believe is a comment on billionaires, and how you can be absolutely despicable and do despicable things, but you will only be judged for your wealth not your actions.
There’s a lot going on under the surface of the show dealing with wealth, the metric of personal worth, status/class, empathy. It’s more than just a convoluted tale.
