I’ve been dippping in and out of matches since it started. Whole thing seems a bit muted so far. Hopefully it will lift off after a classic match or two. It would be great if it caught the imagination like the men’s WC does.
You’re not the first to say that. It seemed to resonate with a couple of mates in the industry too.
Season 1 was super ‘indie’ to me. Lots of jump cuts, great dialogue and pace.
I absolutely loved Season 2, but for different reasons. It was more character development and back story. Episode 6 was bonkers, almost headache inducing, yet I have mixed feelings about the additional celebs. Did they really add any value? Not sure. Still bloody good though.
The small scene between Ritchie and Terry (Olivia Coleman) was gold.
Finished succession. I enjoyed it but I don’t think it was top tier tv (madmen, sopranos, wire).
Half way through bear 2. Loving it. Seems less intense than first season so far.
Wham doc - brilliant.
A couple of films on the flight back from boston:
A man called Otto - surprised how much I enjoyed this, funny and moving. Thought hanks was really good.
Ad astra - started off ok but went downhill pretty quickly.
Paris is burning - first time seeing this. Ace.
Problem is so far it’s been quite predictable bar NZ v Norway.
How was your trip? Sorry about the weather.
really good trip thanks. absolutely loved cape code and p town. managed to see some whales on a boat trip. boston was great too, appreciate the tips.
Anyone watch series The Crowded Room?
Started it last night. Got a bit bored half way through first episode which isn’t a good sign. Worth going back to?
Only starting it tonight…
Went back to it. It got better.
Edit: some dancefloor scenes in Danceteria in ep2. Getting more interesting.
It was a great scene with Ritchie and Terry.
Was at the NZ vs Philippines game last night, which needed a goal from the Philippines to get the crowd going. It did in the second half. Not a European or South American level atmosphere, but the jeopardy helped. Very young crowd, which is nice to see.
NZ crowd was counting down when the opposition keeper had the ball and was time wasting, which I’ve never seen before. Crowd also very animated when the keepers caught the ball or the ball hit somebody in the face - which I suppose comes from rugby being the national sport and throwing a ball being a sought-after skill.
I feel New Zealanders are quite confused about the sport that the rest of the world just gets on with.
Apocalypse Now in Space; I really liked this at the cinema when it came out.
Oppenheimer the other night. Looooong, but rewarding by the end overall, IMO
The Bear 2 Half way through, loving it
6th Commandment on iPlayer. Very good!
The White Lotus, late on this one but am loving it so far
Anyone watch The Sixth Commandment? Anything with Timothy is a must watch in this house but really gripping BBC drama (never thought I’d utter that sentance)…
Enjoyed it. Last episode less strong than the rest but good overall.
I agree re Oppenheimer. A lot to take in and aside from the actual bomb test scenes a lot of it is procedural. But it came together by the end and it felt like the endurance was worth it.
Feels like a lot of strong but not totally outstanding performances from an amazing cast but I’m sure Nolan will win awards for how he put it all together.
Nice to see the positive appraisals of Oppenheimer here - going Sunday. Not generally a fan of Nolan, but the source material (Kai Bird’s American Prometheus) is great.
We were craving a popcorn flick last weekend and sprung for the latest Mission Impossible. It more than delivered. I don’t think I’d seen any of them since the first installment back in the 90s. Very well paced (compared with the latest Bonds which have been a slog at times) and the stunts were fabulous. Refreshingly not full of its own mythology. The Rome car chase was really something as well. Top thriller.
Loved it! The best in the series if you ask me. Sets it up so well for a full Part2 in so much as you feel it’s just getting started
Superb and quite an incredible story.
Finished my third and probably final watch of The Sopranos from start to finish. Still the greatest ever TV series in my eyes.
I watched it over the last six months with my other half who had never seen it before and she was bowled over by it. And yeah, Tony is whacked and Paulie knew it was going to happen. Ordered by Little Carmine, the quiet victor. (Sorry about the spoilers but you have had 16 years…)
