It was reported at the time that Cameron shouted, “There’s something in me! Get it out,” while a conga line formed around him.

“There’s something in me! Get it out,” this is priceless. These are the exact words a lad at work used when he did a large line of MDMA thinking it was chop. It was at a work do in a La Tasca at about 4 in the afternoon. I’m putting this article on our group chat.

‘Disastrously, my musical tastes formed in the 1990s. With CD production at its height, this was a miserable era for record-buyers’

My mate recently went to an author’s book talk (something to do with record collecting or the new vinyl craze) He really upset the guy who seemed to not mention or aknowledge the huge market in Dance 12 inch singles in this period, which kept the whole industry afloat and the presses running.

Great read, didnt know how many greats she had toured with which is nothing compared to her recording (Solo & with Prince) legacy

While much of this may be old hat to some on here, I found this a pretty enlightening read (and more substantial than the twitter post that I saw that started off the same - the BTL comments, for once, are worth plowing through too):

FWIW: I knew Mike and Andy in Manchester, first from them trying to blag a listing in the weekly I wrote for, but got on well with each other and kept in touch, then ended up DJing upstairs at Equinox for them - but was sick the week that Andy nearly got torched! They asked if I wanted to go out to Ibiza with them, but bailed on that as I was about to start a Masters where I could still sign on, get housing benefit, etc. Always wondered what might have happened otherwise… Somehow, I think I made the right decision
Still never been to Ibiza. But maybe this is probably more related to “the other thread”.

Went to rock n roll book club last night (which is pretty much great every month regardless of who the guest is) which had Dave and Martin Moscrop from A Certain Ratio and some great stories from both. Ended up buying Dave’s collection of books which all look really interesting and can probably be read in a sitting or two, will report back as I get through them.

A political hot potato right now. Locals getting priced out in Spain is fuelling anger. An estimated 200,000 took to the streets in the Canary Islands yesterday.

Oriol Maspons now gone live on IDEA website this morning. Picked up mine on Saturday.

This is a great read. I enjoyed the fact he loves playing long sets with just a mixer and two decks
Very simple and cool

Fascinating history of apocalyptic thought. Highly recommend another book by Norman Cohn; The Pursuit of the Millennium. The history (and influence) of apocalyptic/millenarian movements and ideas, leading up to Communism and Nazism.

gonna disagree with the general sentiment of this song here; maybe from a US perspective.

i had a pal who, way back when, called it “the most mormon song ever” and i could find no fault with that assessment.

also, that article shows the HEIGHT of privilege. “i played my yet-to-be released unknown debut for paul simon and he told me to change the title” - “david gilmour had notes” etc.

there’s something about that song that insipres both love and hate for me - the idea that a rich white guy working on a holland/yates show could be like “ooooh maybe an african chant chorus” sucks, but it conflicts with a very young me who stayed up late to watch/VHS tape an SNL where they shared a musical double bill with the cult - that may have been the first time i felt the too-immediate turn from YES to NO about a band’s song so quickly.

also, i swear (but cannot prove) that they changed the “children drunk lemonade” lyric to “listening to the hit parade” on SNL. it may have been something i completely imagined.
