As an antidote to all that, Humankind by Rutger Bregman looks at all the ways in which humans are naturally collaborative, kind, trusting etc.
There is this thing called ‘veneer theory’ which says civilisation breaks down when we are stress/tested; he argues that it’s the opposite, eg in covid most people looked out for each other rather than went goblin mode

I read that too. Pretty hard to disagree with him. This Shittered Isle :expressionless:

Interesting they are quite short compared to the Audo Books ( 3 h vs 15 h)
Looking forward to these

Just finished “brother. do. you. love. me”. A truly wonderful read about two brothers, one of whom, Reuben, has Down’s syndrome, and how they overcome Reubens depression, after a less than successful stay in a care home at the beginning of lockdown.

A joy to read, absolutely beautifully written by Manni Coe and featuring many of Reubens drawings, it has taught me so much about what life can be, and how we could help everyone lead their best life.

Published by our little bookshop in town, little toller, this deserves some awards this year.

Tarantino book, so far bit of a let down as the core is 10 mainstream 70s films he tells stories about.

This the non-fiction one he was supposed to do after releasing the Once Upon A Time In Hollywood novelization? Really loved that novelization, almost as much as I liked the film. Was curious how the film history non-fiction title would turn out.

In my time away from music making, took up reading fiction for the first time in about a decade. Reading Firestarter right now, been on a Stephen King kick since July or so. Read The Institute and Revival, now on to this one.

Thinking a Lawrence Block title next, big fan of those Hard Case Crime published titles of his.

I never read fiction, much to my Dad’s dismay although I’ve read a book of Stephen King short stories over the summer… Took me a while and some I liked more than others. I envy people who can get lost in a story - I don’t think I’ll ever be one of those; I can never help thinking ‘but it didn’t really happen did it’ which is odd because I never take that approach with TV or film. Am trying to read Bachmann (aka Stephen King) The Long Walk at the moment which is good…like a bit of dystopia now and again.

Nice, loved Fabi back then, his album still gets a spin in my gaff all these years later. Sounds like he is doing ok there too.

Loved all his remixes, massive at the time. Glad to read he’s come out of it with a decent outlook on life

Bought this whilst loitering around Bedford today, waiting for the latest record/cafe venture to open doors (they never did).

Interesting piece here on wether the album format is still relevant. Essentially it’s asking the question, is the full length album format a colossal waste of time for artists in todays climate of short attention spans, content saturation from all medium and streaming that prioritises single tracks? In such a fast shifting cultural landscape when getting noticed is harder than ever, is it really worth the effort. I was thinking of writing a new album over the winter months but this piece has me wondering. Has anyone got any thoughts from a consumer or producer standpoint?
