What Are You Reading?

Futtle Records is a 25min drive away from me, we were there a few weeks back. Lovely beer brewed onsite too just outside the beautiful St Monans

Just finished this on audio book and must admit I flew through it and found it really interesting having lived in Manchester from 1996 - 2008 which is when most of it takes place.

No mention of covid grants

Arrived today. Not sure when i’ll get around to it, there’s a bit of a backlog on the shelf.

Ish is local, met him a couple times & he’s worked with a couple friends of mine. Top guy and can’t recommend Shabazz Palaces enough.

I liked fabric but never loved it. Went fairly often in the early 00s, usually on a friday, but that main room always seemed to get over crowded at peak time. I saw some good live hip hop shows there.

It was important it existed, especially once The End closed (and it was basically The End But Much Bigger in terms of music policy). Places that large with big name DJs will always have problems with the casual/tourist clubber crowd though.

Mixed feelings about Fabric looking back. The more interesting music was in room 3 (last time was 2009? when Bill & Jolyon played) but people always seemed to be passing through and it never had a vibe. The Francis & Richards sets in main room could be incredibly boring for ages before something eventually happened and someone dropped a Tiga acid bomb. It was a bit creepy for women at times and filled with randoms, another buzz killer. Much preferred The End, although it was only after discovering the Corsica that I realised what i’d been missing in London

Think that was 2012, I’d forgotten about that night. I think that’s the only time I ever went other than once to a FK night not long after it opened! Too big a place for me, always preferred smaller parties.

Used to go very early days for Haywire nights as a mate was playing. Then not for ages until i took my then mrs to a Body & Soul thing about 10 years ago. She saw Claussell doing his ‘thing’ and found it hilarious.
Last time was AW60 which was a great night and stayed til 7am powered by music & rum :joy: I never found it particularly large, just lots of interconnected nooks an crannies and enjoyed shambling around the different spaces; gives me hazy memories of being a noodled teenager at Club UK or some squat rave years ago
