A useful guide to some of the lesser known ‘Touch’ records
Ines picks records and talks about them:
intriguing! any ideas who/what he’s referring to?
The infamous Andrew Lloyd Weber / Genesis P Orridge post-Shoom collaboration from '88?
Good tips! I bought a chunk of her records last year and we got to talk about all sorts of DJ stuff, like how we would all do much better playing in Europe (like Sadar Bahar, who plays more overseas than locally), and her choosing to quit her day job at one of my favorite restaurants to DJ/organize parties full time. She’s being mentored by Darryn Jones and Material which is cool.
Wow I follow them (Material and Ines) for a while on IG and I have a lot of love and respect for their work - atittude, digging and selection, parties they make, their care about the crowd, their openness and kindness in communication,…
Shazam Bangles also seems like a nice guy <3
Both are extremely nice. I’ve met Shazam Bangles but not had much conversation otherwise. We have a ton of great DJs and producers here who don’t get as much credit as they should. Chicago has this weird history (maybe everywhere does?) of gatekeeping top bills and recycling a lot of the same names ad nauseum. It’s difficult for newer djs to break in but Ines has done an amazing job, especially for someone so young. Beau Wanzer is another good example. He has great branding and local presence.
A small tribute to Larry Heard, as Can You Feel It turns 40
Definitely a movie in here waiting…
On MUBI if you’re interested.
i think it’s a suzanne ciani recording using an eventide effects processor to create a sort of emulation of a gay male voice. yes, really.
