really really dope new thing

“Producer, drummer, and DJ based in Los Angeles. Bobbyy’s debut album ‘Buckets’ is an homage to his deep love and understanding of music history, incorporating elements of Chicago House a la Larry Heard, alongside raw, sample-based production reminiscent of Madlib or Daedelus, all the while basking in 808’s.”

Sometimes certain music just transports you back to a specific spot in the distant past. Am thinking E London and Visions, East Village and Dalston Superstore and all the messiness that lurked within. Visions in particular, that retro video store with a double life after dark. Coming up and suddenly all the chatter blurring in mono all around you. This is the sort of ‘heads down’ house that would be playing. Magical times.

Used to love Matt Thompson’s Kiss FM Manchester radio shows back in the mid to late 90s, he had great taste and used to get lots of interesting guests on to interview.
The first place I heard Moodymann, Daft Punk, Dj Cam, lot of Mo’ Wax stuff
I just found this interview with Gary Cobain from FSOL talking about and playing tracks from his musical influences, I guess this is from around about 1994.

Really nice that. Not heard it before, never made it to Visions but I can picture the sort of vibe you mention from that record.

Gerd is such a hero but I’ve found a lot of his recent stuff feels a bit phoned in

Yeah, was a wicked little sweaty low-ceiling rave pit. Heard everything in there from italo cosmic electro through to chicago, detroit and even the odd mylo or inxs edit.

A ritual schooling for me c/o rick hopkins, johnny 5, john daly, fabrizio mamarella, toby tobias, gene hunt, miles simpson, dolan bergin amongst others

A fiver entry, tenner at a push. All night long. Imagine that now weeps

Booze didn’t extend far beyond red stripe in an ice barrel. Jugs of free water along bar

Remember this really talented guest called John Heckle who came down to dj from Liverpool with a load of acid/electro, stuff off Mathematics records which somehow all got nicked or left on train of shame, a messy one!

Going back many years here. Still doing stuff by sounds of it

That Thunder video is so good. I’m sure there were a few more of the Gene Hunt night that have now vanished. “It’s not every day we 'ave a Gene Hunt situation”.

Always enjoyed this from John Heckle

Lot of great memories of this one. Nice one came out last year on an Irish label, needs pitching down a fair bit to go with anything I play but of a similar ilk (might even be an old track tbh). But John has such a touch with strings. Beltran remix is nice too.

Also should give a rec to the label owners stuff, which is really nice:

“Efficient Space welcomes Th Blisks to the fold with their mutant strain of melodica dub, torched hip hop breaks, post-punk and procession song. lo-fi Aussie dreampop supergroup with a gorgeously sun-crisped sense of bliss and dazed introspection, somewhere between Saint Etienne’s ‘Foxbase Alpha’, Teresa Winter x YL Hooi.”

I’ve been enjoying this album a lot.

This is really rather good. Loads of mid tempo, floaty, early house bits

Dat bassline. Digging the whole EP, nice dark, heads down house grooves. My kinda house.
